Saved this little spiderling while I was painting a house this summer, took him home and watched him grow from a baby. Watched him molt and spin webs. He grew up mature and strong, so I found him a lady. That bitch ate him after he was being a gentalmen and trying so hard to make her love him....I almost cryed.
I'm just hoping he got to close the deal before the end.

I lied, it wasn't sadness I felt but anger. I really wanted to smash her into dust...but then the thoughts of her having his babys lifted my spirts to just feeling sad.
Going to catch some more males to "entertain" my new pet. She MUST have babys now, he's part of her and there for part of the babys. HE WILL LIVE ON!
lol
I'll try and post some pic tomarrow.

What kind of spider is it?
Sorry for the loss, but thats the risks and chances we take mating spiders. I hope you get a bunch of little ones.

Well from the novice research I've done(google FTW) my best guess would be Araneus diadematus.
Figured it would be best to start with something harmless and hardy to get a feel for it. Besides I just LOVE there webs, could sit for hours and just observe.
My friend collects tarantulas; a blackwidow would be cool in the future but neither have webs with as much aesthetic value in my eye.

I named her Bella. Introduced(erm more like fed) 1 1/2 males to her today. I put 2 in with her hoping that maybe if she did eat the first one, the second one could sweep in and score on Bella as she wouldn't be hungery.

Well, suiter #002 failed to woo Bella, but did provid a nice meal for her :o This pic is of #003 after he lost a leg as he was going back for more. I'll admit she is very pretty, but damn....these guys must really be in love.

If #003 gets eaten would it be likey that maybe she is already expecting? Or what type of signs should I be looking for that she is ready or not ready. Hate to keep sending these little males to there death if it's pointless.

Tough luck, but yeah it's most likely she is already gravid since she is WC. Good luck though!

It could be that she doesn't have a full web good enough for courtship. Or that yeah, she's already gravid.

Ya I know it's about as pointless as trying to mate grasshoppers, but I wanted to try. I pull these guys off houses all day long at work. Figured it would be good experince if I'm going to try other types later.
