I recently went to Costa Rica. This spider was typically found on banana trees, although coulld be seen on a few other trees with smooth bark. They ranged in size from 1 inch up to 7ish inches. The one in this pic would be about 6 inches across. They are not prone to running, but get too close with a twig and they would bite the #@$%# out of it and then drop to the ground- slowly, as it was still tethered to the tree by a silk line (you can see it in this pic pretty well). Pretty bitey things on banana trees. Any ideas??

best thing i can say is a hunstamn thats found in costa rica on banana trees :D
