Hey all, found a really pretty mature male Salticid today while helping my wife collect Misumena sp. for a research project. I have never seen a jumper like this in Kentucky before. He is very pretty, red on top of the prosoma and opisthosoma, black appendages and ventral surfaces. Some very light dots on the edge of the dorsal prosoma. I wish I could get a good picture of him but my digital camera sucks. Any leads as to what he might be. I am fairly sure he belongs to the genus Phidipus.
Thanks,
Anthony

After searching the web and finding some sights with pics and list of Salticid species I am 99% sure it is a mature male P. apacheanus. Bright red dorsal scales, jet balck everywhere else except for white cuffs on the legs. A truly great looking spider! The thing is I can't find any record of the species being in Kentucky. Caught him at my mom in laws house. When she saw it all she said was that she sees them all the time! I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Here is a pic. Not the best, but don't have a great camera for macro shots. The white across the back is from webbing. It does have white bands around the lower legs.
