Hi,

Does any one know what the optimal temperature would be to raise Steatoda paykulliana spiderlings or juveniles. (and also breeding later on)
The place where i keep them in gets amazingly cold. So i want to put them near some heat source but i don't want to over do it.
Probably could try and figure it out by looking at climate stats for spain but maybe someone has some experience ?

When you say "amazingly cold" what are we talkin"? 7 degrees Celsius? lower?
A couple/few months above freezing, (but chilly) would be good for them.

should not get much below 7 i would say. Day temperatures higher. So you recon they would be ok with this ?
It was just that i would like to them to develop quickly, but maybe you're right and i should just leave them unheated.

don't do much in the way of growing at the lower end. or the middle end. actually they don't really do much in the way of growing, period

They will feed (though will require less) even when chilled down close to freezing.
Im going to jump out on that limb again and say that periods of cold temps will slow down the death clock and could give you extra years with your spiders. I have yet to find a reliable source stating the average lifespan of paykulliana, but I suspect that they are like grossa ...slow going w/everything and long living ...maybe 3 to 6 years.
If I am able to produce a 2nd generation, I will powerfeed a test group to see how fast these can reach maturity. But.. from normal feeding (every 3 weeks or so) it looks like these take over a year to mature.
My sling death rate (unexplained, molt problems ..etc) has been under 5% (est) which tells me that these are tough little ####ers.

Thanks for that, very useful information. I will keep them unheated in that case.
