Ines,

I'm not an expert on South American Diplopoda, but I believe you have a Polydesmid millipede characterized by the flattened body, anal valves underneath the body rather than at the tip, and lacking eyes. Yours is possibly of the family Xystodesmidae, because the telson (posterior) comes to a point.

Warning number one, they excrete hydrogen cyanide that will burn the top layer of your skin and turn your fingers reddish brown.

Warning number two, the concentation of chemicals in the air of the container you keep your Polydesmid might kill other small animals, so they are better kept alone.

You found a nice little guy that can be kept just fine as a pet as long as you wash your hands after handling, and keep it in its own terrarium.

PS- Your English is much better than my Spanish!

:)

Interesting to see that they're in Venezulla, I know people that found them in Ontario-Quebec (eastern-southern Canada).

Thanks a lot... I did not keep this one because I found it in a rock climbing day and it could die if it have to pass all day in a plastic package.

In Venezuela we have a lot of this guys... yellow and red are the most common.

Mi english is very bad, but I think is getting better with arachnopets :)

Qué pasa Ines,

Very cool that you observed it, and let it live...I think I'm in love!

My English is very bad, but I think it is getting better with arachnopets :) :)

I don't think your English is bad at all, everyone can understand you. You made some small mistakes that nobody cares about. I'm glad you are posting on arachnopets. I think you are cute, and latino women that rock climb and are interested in millipedes turn me on! :}

Too bad I'm old and married!

I think its cool that you are brave enough to post and work on your English on the arachnopets forum. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Most people that speak English as their first language make mistakes. People are pretty nice here, keep posting!

;)

Cool site, and the 2 day jungle trip says there will be tarantula catching too. I bet that opens things up for catching about any invert you would want... :D

Hey guys. You may wanna check into exportation type restrictions and see if it is legal to send millies or centipedes either one from South America. I am not implying that it is restricted but some tarantula species are prohibited from export. Maybe other inverts too. Better to be safe than sorry. :)

Pfff...we 're just living in the wrong country mate :p

In Belgium you won't find such nice critters in your garden :(

Maybe we should consider of moving to a tropical place...then there's nothing to worry about restrictions :D

Or maybe not...then you might start thinking of importing bugs from Europe =D

I'm pretty sure Venezuela is locked tighter than a chastity belt as far as inverts go... I know we can't get centipedes from there, so I doubt the millipedes would fly either.
