I collected the specimens used for the photos at the various press sites - it's a nice spider!
That's awesome, and it really is a cool spider!

Can I express the opinion that this name(and the other one mentioned in the article on the whirlilig beetle) is a sign of taxonomy going down the tubes?

Amen. With the invention of hiphop and baggy trousers civilisation has been on a downward spiral ever since.. This latest news doesn't surprise me in any way.

I pity the biologist 15 years from now looking into a collection of type specimens and trying to find the "Neil Young Spider".
Seriously though. Descriptive names, names denoting origin, or even allusions to greek etc. I understand. Naming it after someone is respectable occasionally, but now a lot of it is a bunch of politics.

Haha. I don't see how the two are related but okay.
I agree that Neilyoungi is a silly name. Scientific names should sound more scientific like with Latin or Greek derivitives. I mean what's next? Ilikepeanutbuterandjellysandwichesi? Or a scientist popping the question Bonniewillyoumarrymei? Wait till marketing companies exploit this as a new niche with Molsonexporti and Dominostwistybreadi. OMG there's no end!
