Got an Thelcticopis modesta. This is one of the coolest spiders out there IMO. Let me know if you think the enclosure is alright.

Btw there are air holes in the top middle its just had to see I was focusing more on the inside of the enclosure. I have read/heard these girls can producing alot of egg sacs. I can only hope:rolleyes:
Get a proper top and the cage will work.

Yeah by the time I got home the local pet store was closed. Im getting one tomorrow morning.:D
As far as I can tell the top is flat, so just get a piece of plexi or acrylic from the hardware store and melt a few vent holes in it....
I had an agelenid escape from a container in a day with just saran wrap for a lid... and it was taped on -way- better than that...

I got a whole new cage for it (5 gallon) with a good lid. All good now... But when i woke up the little beast was behind a poster on my wall lol... I had no way to get to the petstore yesterday though so I kinda expected it. Its all good now though :D
Did we not just discuss the dangers of exotic invertebrates, especially ones that make multiple eggsacs, escaping and possibly having a very big negative impact?
To quote from arachnochat when I read this, everyone knows facepalming or head desking, but this is new:

Yes you lost that arguement so I wouldnt advise starting one. I have got it under control now, there was no other option to keep it in so I wasnt going to hold it all night till 9am the next day or keep it in the tiny little cup it was squezzed in as it may have died so whats your suggestion?
Worth noting that my point is still VERY valid...
I am going to make an assumption that the cup the spider was in probably would have been more than adequate for the spider to stay in for a few days if not a couple weeks(with proper feeding).

He starts mini arguments with everyone, I wouldn't worry about it.
Case and point: You weren't able to due to circumstances beyond your control, you're getting a new one, problem solved.

I dont start mini or any kind of arguments with everyone, but I am not afraid of calling out people who are doing things that are potentially damaging to the hobby.
You, well...that argument was really just me venting about crap going on IRL. Just remember, this is the internet, dont take anything personally.

Yeah well you obviously dont learn very well do you. I said to not post in my threads if your just going to try in an attempt of internet bravo to gain E-pride over invertabrates. So learn from your previous mistakes before I embarrass you again:shame: Heres the new cage.

Look, I am not starting a fight and I am not arguing with you. I pointed out an error in the hopes that you would do everything in your power not to have it happen again. Not to mention your valiant statement about nothing you own escaping...
I make sure none of my pets has even the slightest chance of escaping. But thanks for the help and comments guys
-cjm-
Anyways, if anyone has been embarrassed here it is you. Take a few minutes and read my other posts and see if your opinion about my 'previous mistakes' changes... I have been in the hobby a good while and I know my stuff, approval from anyone isnt needed for me as I am happy with my knowledge and the rate at which I am learning more and more.
Also worth noting is that there are a decent number of people here that do like me and know me in real life. In fact I spent probably close to 12 hours with a few of them(and numerous other people into bugs) this weekend at the Bug Fair...
p.s. That scorpion looks to be a desert species, you should get it off the damp peat ASAP.
p.p.s. Little bit much ventilation on the KK for the huntsman.

Perhaps, researching about the care and temperament of the animal you're interested in, then procuring and establishing the proper setup before buying, would be a good start? :?

Look. Your hated on the site by many people I have had numerous PMs telling me your an ignorant person who has nothing to do but try and give people a hard time. And it was out of my power that it escaped or it wouldnt have. and obviously your vision is horribly off if you like ill post a pic of my deathstalkers enclosure from the inside if you want to look even more stupid. And I have fixed the ventilation so its not like im not using your advise. You just give me info in a rude and obnoxious way so you get feed back for it. Also "8-)" I have done my research and know how to care for every pet I own. Dont bother posting anything that does not refer to the question or body of my threads. Thanks.

8+) is telling you that you should get proper accomodations for the pet before buying it as well. Not just caring for it. You obviously showed that you were not ready to keep the spider with your plastic wrap "lid." It's just some friendly advice from some experienced people. It's not weird to have a few empty, but set up cages laying around in wait for future spiders either :)
Look. Your hated on the site by many people I have had numerous PMs telling me your an ignorant person who has nothing to do but try and give people a hard time.
I would love to see those, and they are probably from people that I have criticized before for behaviors that can either damage the hobby or are just stupid and demeaning to their animals(or a few other things).
And it was out of my power that it escaped or it wouldnt have.
Properly taping down some saran wrap is out of your power?
...a pic of my deathstalkers enclosure...
If that is a deathstalker you will definitely want to get it off peat and onto sand ASAP.
And I have fixed the ventilation so its not like im not using your advise. You just give me info in a rude and obnoxious way so you get feed back for it.
Glad to hear you are actually listening to my advise, it gives me some hope for you, but then again...had you done your research before getting the spider you would have known it needed high humidity.
Also "8-)" I have done my research and know how to care for every pet I own. Dont bother posting anything that does not refer to the question or body of my threads. Thanks.
See above text, and if you dont want people posting in your threads with criticisms and other such comments then dont post threads. If I see something wrong with an enclosure I will call the person out on it. Same for any care issues or any number of other things. There are quite a few members here that will do it, and while I may not be babying you and trying cater to you like our society has started to do for people in the school systems dont mistake it for rudeness or being obnoxious. I just dont put up with crap.

I feel like this should be said again... Even if the chances of it causing significant damage may be low, the amount of potential damage is very high with introduced species. Gravid exotics that can possibly adapt should never be allowed to escape.

Here's your post where you had ordered the spider before knowing anything about them: cjm1991, "I'm sorry, maybe instead of being defensive, my pets and I would be better served by me swallowing my pride and learning from my mistakes." (http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=123907)

@ Rydog: Who knows...I got on his case for a few things in a row because he did not search at all yet claimed to have done so. I guess that makes me 'mean' or 'rude' or 'obnoxious'. If you figure it out let me know.
Is quite simple: Don't acquire an animal before researching it and acquiring everything you need to properly take care of it. :wall:

Hey-
Just wanted to let you know that 'What' here on the boards is a complete joke and basically annoys a good number of sensible people. It's hard to hold a logical argument with him because he doesn't understand what other people are saying and it's basically like talking to a brick.
Case and point: As long as you got a proper cover, just ignore him.
It's great that you're here asking questions and learning. I commend you for that. Just please do things in the proper order next time. ;)

LMAO. Go talk to Cheshire, Cacoseraph, Pulk, Canth, ShadowBlade, or any number of other people and you will get responses that state otherwise. I have had numerous debates with ShadowBlade and Cheshire where I have openly admitted they are right.
And as for what 8+) just said, follow that advice and we will never have any other issues. :)
Edit: Mind posting up who said that? Or do it via pm? I need to have a bit of a discussion with someone about saying stuff that isnt true...
Edit v2: Although, I am fairly sure that I know who it is, I want to be 100% sure before sending messages.

You "just want to let [us] know that 'what' here on the boards is a complete joke"? You sound like a 12 year old. I don't know 'What' at all, these are his first posts that I've read and I completely side with him. He wasn't attacking you, just correcting your poor planning that could have resulted in a gravid, non-indiginous spider escaping into the wild. Quit taking it so personally, get thicker skin.
You're embarassing yourself.
You've contradicted yourself numerous times and attacked other members for simply disagreeing with you. Then you said that you don't want to hear any other points of view; if that's the case then stay off of the internet, free speech prevails here. Then you send nasty PMs to other members gossiping about who you don't like. I'd be ashamed of myself.
The only thing you can do now is admit you were wrong and grow up a bit.

Lol yeah I try to take all the advice I can in a good manner but theres a significant deference between giving advice and what some people ""pros"<--lol" call giving advice. I have no problem if someone tells me what im doing is wrong but calling me out and being rude just makes them look even worse;P Being a expert at handling a dangerous animal only proves your life consist to much of playing with inverts instead of with your kids/gf..if your able to get one which from alot of these guys pics i doubt/ and your social life. But thank you scott I think shes a pretty good looking female. around 3.5" now.

I already told you its not the tips you give me its how you give them. Look, I suggested you search in the thread you started before that one. You obviously didnt so I suggested the same thing with a bit more strongly. I didnt 'take advantage' of you.
As for the whole 'refrain from replying' if you(and the person who sent the PM) would stop with the slander/libel I would stop.

I got the PM from a member of AB. You replyed I lack 98% of my brain skill... What does that have to do with:So I just purchased a 3'' female and was looking for a caresheet perhaps or at least a little info on humidity/temp and substrate,, things along those lines. Full size and all? LMK when you get an intellegent excuse for it. BTW your loosing this arguement just as bad as the one in the above link;)
Lol yeah I try to take all the advice I can in a good manner but theres a significant deference between giving advice and what some people ""pros"<--lol" call giving advice.
"pros" are technically people who get paid for it (and hence are pretty likely to know what they're talking about) or colloquially people who know more than the average person about the subject (and hence would give good avice).
I have no problem if someone tells me what im doing is wrong but calling me out and being rude just makes them look even worse;P
"calling one out" means telling them what they're doing is wrong. being rude -does- make someone look worse, but you have to have a personal attack or unjustified harshness to qualify for rudeness... which I haven't seen much in posts calling you out.
Being a expert at handling a dangerous animal only proves your life consist to much of playing with inverts instead of with your kids/gf..if your able to get one which from alot of these guys pics i doubt/ and your social life.
being an expert at handling (i'm assuming you mean keeping) a dangerous animal means they know a lot about it. there is probably a negative correlation (up to a point) with social life, but that has nothing to do with what is being discussed... ad hominem arguments are the worst.
if being an expert is necessarily "to much" for you, then you shouldn't be keeping live animals at all, or anything dangerous for that matter.

it looks like expert advice to me. i wouldn't expect an expert to type out the same care information over and over. and teaching a man to fish is better than giving a man a fish, so to speak.

You just insulted most of this forum, nice one
Actually, most of the girls who post their pics on here are very good looking. In fact, when I go to invert and herp shows there are a bunch of suprisingly hot women present, usually with a huge snake over their shoulders or a large spider crawling on them. As for the guys, most of them are in decent shape and look like people you see anywhere you go.
I do apologize for taking the PM out of context. Your wording and behavior pretty much makes my post correct though, in retrospect.
Someday you'll grow up and learn that it's OK to embarass yourself, you just have to admit that you are wrong in the end and learn from it (for example, next time I comment on somebody's e-argument I'll read more carefully). When you realize that you don't know everything it'll be easier to take people's advice, even if they didn't sugarcoat it and present it to you just the way you want.
