Araneus sp., possibly A. trifolium the "shamrock spider", at least it's dead ringer for the illustratin in "Spiders and Their Kin"!

Bingo, A. trifolium. One of the prettiest orb weavers in my book! They are quite variable in color, ranging from brown to brown/magenta to mint green - all the same species. Nice find!

One of my office workers just came in with an interesting story. This morning, her stepfather was at a construction site where he's building a house. He has to urinate so he goes off into the woods. He suddenly notices a slight burning sensation coming from a very tender area. He reaches down to his testicles and comes up with a "pumpkin spider", presumably A. trifolium. He freaks out and crushes it in his hand. He's at home, with the dead spider, resting from the ordeal, and trying hard to get some sympathy. :)

He can't see not to pee into an orb web? If he doesn't care to look where he's putting it, then I don't see what sympathy that deserves! {D

Hi,

This sounds to me like a classic FOF (friend of a friend) story.

I can't see them now either. This is an old thread (over a year old), may be a dead link.
