I've seen many of these with the same common name, malaysian earthtiger. I have purchased a schioedtei. Is there a difference? I've done searches for both and get two different colored species. Is this the difference between male and female or two different species.

C. thorelli isn't being kept in the hobby as far as I know.
I think the difference you have seen are the differences between male and female. Males have an olive/brown colour.

All Cyriopagopus "thorelli" in the hobby has so far been identical with C. schioedtei.
