According to my entomology professor, I have some Phidippus audax. I think they're spiderlings though because they are brownish gray. Sorry, they're so small I can't take pics!

How small is too small for pics? Can you give a metric size?
P. audax are always black as early instars, and their 'base' color is black. Pictures would be a big help. I don't believe they are audax. Where are you located (state, county if you're up to it)?

About 0.3 or 0.4 millimeters without the legs. I'm located in Bucks County, PA. I'm pretty sure they're audax spiderlings. My professor is not really one to mess around. He really knows his stuff. And come to think of it, all these jumpers are occupying the same areas in the dorms in large-ish numbers(I find tons of them at a time) suggesting they're spiderlings emerging from eggsacs maybe?
Also, I'm looking at them again. They do have patches of black on them, and I think some white too on the others, but they're sleeping and they just happen to enjoy sleeping right under the lid.
They could possibly have grey on them with the white patches blending with the black perhaps. I thought you were in NJ

Here are the two my professor looked at and said they were the audax. I think the flash brought out their colors alot.

yea i meant 3 or 4 mm. i'm hopefully going to take them back to my professor today and have him take a second look at them. he's very very very good with IDing spiders and can name them after 5 seconds of looking at them, but maybe the lighting in his office made them look darker than normal. i'll keep you guys updated.
either way i'm gonna keep 'em

You seem to have an adult (adult male at least) pair of jumpers (if they're the same species. looks like it). Naphrys, Sitticus or one of the tiny jumper genera in your area, which might be numerous.
I don't see anything that would suggest immature Phidippus, even in poor lighting.

well my professor says the babies' coloration varies greatly as spiderlings. I'd trust this guy with any arachnid.
still i'm gonna try and see him tomorrow and have him take a second peek
uummm, the cephalothorax is way dif than audax.
Also is it just me or does anyone else see a set of gloves on one of those dudes
Wow talk about posting in the wrong forum!!! :?
