As I dont have a photo thread, and prob never will, I decided to start a thread of some of my drawings. I apologise if you have seen some of these posted elsewhere or other threads that may have fizzled out.

This thread is open to compliments, constructive criticism, suggestions, complaints, name calling, flame wars, and what ever else you desire,(within AB rules;) ) but....

These drawings are not to be used for commercial use without my written permission. Please respect that before you steal them.

I love how the Metallicas leg is cocked up.

So you use everything huh? Ink, pencil, charcoal, colored pencil?
Do you touch-up any images on the computer?
Do you start with a pic, or just conjure up the images in your head?

Fantastic pics. I always love some good art.

I pretty much just use colored pencil, or ink. The only touching up I sometimes do is clean the white around the spider to help it pop of the page. I wish I could conjure them up out of my head, but I use my photographs as a reference.

Very nice Tom....You have some of them in your book right? I didn't realize you drew them.....very nice! What did you use for the first two?

yes Gary, you've seen them in my book. (and my rib cage;) ) The metallica drawing I did when the only pic of a metallica on the net was a juvie on Rick west web site. I used a pic of a subfusca and had to sort of imagine what an adult would look like haha.

Hello Philth:
The colors on the metallica/formosa work very well! Very impressive! Are they the Prismacolor color pencils by any chance?
My one critique is that they looks dang near real except, particularly the formosa I am not 100% buying the leg positioning/proportions...left 1-2nd and right 3rd.(based on the times I've tried drawing T's that is the hardest thing to get down). If you have the photo you based it off of that would be interesting. I think the formosa colors look more real than the metallica, musta spent alot of time on the carapace!

Ever thought of drawing a Singapore blue?

Mad props!

Hi Thanks for the honest critique. They are the Prismcolor pencils, by far my favorite. I had to kind of make up the colors on the metallica , when I drew it there were no pics of an adult available at the time. So the metallica is more "made up"

I generally dont like to show the photos I used for a reference , becuase you'll see all my errors and realize the drawing kind of sucks haha. But I'll make an exeption just this one time ...

there's nothing wrong with your metallica! i think you did good with the formosa, the only difference is more yellow in the photo, but even that isnt that noticable either. i love my prizmas i'll never go back to standard color pencils again.

sometimes i dont like to post study photos because i dont always use my own and i dont want someone to be like "hey you stole my picture A****LE!" lol

Hello Tom,Thanks for posting the reference photo! It is a really tough thing to draw the 3D positioning of legs accurately(particularly for the T that has its legs at steep angles instead of just sprawling on the ground!). I've been playing with a rather standard set of pencils but am tempted to try the Prismacolors to see what difference it will make. Price is sort of puttin me off though! I like it when people critique my artwork so I figure the same would go for you. :) Joseph

Your avatar is hilairious. Some time back I saw your pic. on "who's behind the camera" but forgot that soon after.
