NEUTRAL - but only just.
Synopsis:
I ordered two Pterinochilus species from Bugs Direct.
One P murinus (gold) and one P murinus (orange)
Good Points
Jacob replies promptly to his emails.
The site is easy to navigate and order from.
The spiders are the same size or slightly larger than described, and both animals were received in good condition - it was my first online deal and I still maintain that the spiders were the best packed I have personally had.
Small clear "deli cups" well padded out with tissue paper, packed in ample shredded paper in a strong cardboard box.
This can't have been easy to do with two feisty Baboons
Bad Points
Prices are expensive compared to private breeders or European dealers. However, in the UK there is a limited choice when it comes to "Online Bug Stores" and the prices are in line with competitors.
The transaction took five days (not including postage) which is an unnaceptably long time for what is meant to be a "shop" not a private breeder.
There are a number of small errors in species names - "Usambara" baboons referred to as P spinifer for starters.
There is also no information regarding the origin of the animals (ie wild or captive) and absolutely no specific care/temperament information - just a general "Tarantula care sheet"
Stock range, as with most UK stores, is very poor.
Would I use them again?
Possibly. To be honest, the bads really outweigh the goods.
If they had something I really wanted, or perhaps a bargain special offer, I might think about using them again.
Otherwise, now that I know I can get far better choice and prices from Europe, I won't generally use such places to order spiders.
