was just researching on a very well accredited, albeit maybe somewhat outdated, database which listed latrodectus hasselti (redback widow) as being found in australia, new zealand, japan, and the one i found odd: belgium. Does anyone know the validity of this data? surely it would be an introduced population if it does indeed exist. and if it does exist, have any of the belgian members of the boards had any encounters with non-captive hasseltis? might be a dumb question, but my curiosity is sparked so thanks,

you never know, they could still exist in very small numbers. I don't think they have searched every square inch of thier old habitat to see if they are all gone. anyway I'm sure there are a few belgian members that could awnser.. ;)

I was told by a belgian that a big company who usually receives carriages from Australia brought this sp in. He told me that the company's building is situated in a field what is perfect for hasselti. If this is true, even if they are not existing at the moment, they can be introduced at any time in the future..
