Hey. My friend from Hawaii caught a spider and wanted some info. He said it is a volcanic cave spider. I can't seem to find an info for him. I will try to get a picture from him. Anyone know where I can find some info to pass along. Thanks

can you elaborate on this

Things from caves are amazingly specialized and arent something that should be collected...ever*. (Not to mention, the spider in question quite possibly is an endangered species, something that carries a heavy penalty for collection.)

* At least by hobbyists, and if for taxonomic purposes, only one or two specimens.

Read this website. The last time the animal was surveyed they only found 30 individuals. If it was found in an area outside the know habitat (3 caves), I would find someone at a local university and tell them where it was collected.

My son just called me a few minutes ago and said that he is doing a report for school on this spider. Cool!

The Kauai cave wolf spider is both rare and unusual. Found only in three caves on Kauai Island, Hawaii, the species is blind-unlike other wolf spiders that are known to hunt using their keen eyesight. Endangered from habitat de adation, it is also thought to be at risk from the pesticide residues seeping into its cave dwelling.
See that you guys got this covered... but...
Key words: "rare", "unusual", "found only", "endangered", "at risk". Thats the intro paragraph to the story (link posted above).

Too bad the "hobby" has never proved to (IMHO) be able to keep a specie going. I mean jeese.. damn man, blind wolf spiders! Gotta have that listed on the stock list! Oh hum... well, if it were different(or if Im just plain wrong), i'd say go get some! ..and pass them on to the wolfy experts. I was just listening to some biologists blurbing out within their 3 sec allotted time.."we believe there will be a 40-50% OVERALL specie loss on this planet within the near future...blah, blah, bah... doh! " Maybe the blind cave wolf spider doesnt have a chance in hell anyway ..well, theres those underfunded universities/zoos and some overconfident hobbyists ...ok, a chance in hell.

Preserve the genetic code. Remember BladeRunner?
Nothin' left, but everything that was(and then some) is now readily available. ;)
