I went on a hike and discovered a jumping spider specimen in the road on the top of a dam in NY. Through Much research on the interent i finally came up with a possible identification of phiddipus clarus. Upon keeping her in a glass pickle jar she has spun a web around herself. I presume that she is about to molt or even better might lay an eggsack. very interesting little spider and is very alert and curious to its surroundings. Just figured id start a post im interested in any information on any jumping spider expireinces or knowledge if anyone has any. Very curious species. :)

Jumping spiders will spin web purses just to have a shelter. They do not make webs only when they are molting or gravid, they make web purses when they lost their previous one. (or when they find a better spot, I suppose)
Now, if it is a web purse of substantial size, there is a likelihood that it will lay eggs.

Thanks M for your response! Yea i guess it might just have created a new shelter. Im hoping since its abdomen is huge that it will lay an eggsac though. The web shelter is quite large so im crossing my fingers.

I have a P. audax that my sister found in her yard, she spun an egg sac just a day or two after i got her. It's big, and she hasn't emerged from it since building it.
My other P. audax, who i've had since last fall, has built a couple of small envelope-type structures, but mostly just prefers to hang out under the lid of his enclosure. The only time i've seen him hide in his webbing was when he molted (i say him but it's an unsexed spider).
Share some pics of your new friend if you can!

I have 2 of the red-back spider of the California region. Both have 2 eggs between them and some slings. I've had to use tweezers for feeding since they just won't come out.
