In the 25th of March I received a package with an adult Poecilotheria striata that I ordered. It was such a good price I didn't expect anything more than what I ordered. Today I was getting ready to reuse the box. I was putting the vials in the box when I came across a small container that was mixed in with the paper. It was labeled Aphonopelma sp. on the side. The paper towel was spotted with fungus. I started to feel bad assuming the spider would be dead until I opened the package and saw a 2 inch spider sitting there apparently alive and well. So this guy went almost an entire month on the floor in my lab without food, water, heat, etc. I wasn't expecting a freebie, so this came as a nice surprise to say the least.

After 1 month in a 1 oz plastic cup with moldy paper towels, it doesn't look too much worse for the wear. Now to find out what it is.

Wow what a nice story! Keep us updated on him/her!

EDIT: I'm a noob, but I think that looks like an A. chalcodes. Thought I'd try to help!

This time it wasn't as bad. I found the freebie just a couple of hours later. I was told by the seller a few hours after I received the box. There are a number of very generous dealers here. Excellent prices and a freebies too.

Well what was the freebie this time? And can you name the dealers?

The freebie this time was a Brachypelma albopilosum sling. Not .5" or .75" sling, but over 1" sling. I was pleased since I was just telling my wife we don't have any representatives of that Brachy species yet. I worry that mentioning the sellers here (I've already left positive reviews in their feedback threads) will be unfair to the many other generous sellers I've dealt with over the last few years.
