This species have a wery interesting way of mating. The male actually webs the female in, to perevent her from munching him after the mating.

The mating is over and the female are still tied up, it takes the female a few minuttes to untangle from the males web:

Very nice pictures!!!!!
As Phoneutria is related to Acylomates, do you know if the mating behavior is something alike the one showed in the pictures?
I have never experienced such a thing. I am still looking for a mating partner for my Phoneutria Boliviensis female ;).
I hope when I do so, to post pictures of the process.

Hi Ricardo!
I have no experience with Phoneutria (yet) so I cant tell anything about their mating behaviour, but i donīt think they should be too difficult to breed, (I base this on that Phoneutria spp, often are put for sale on many different foraīs ;) )

I wish I could get one of those Asylomates, but so fr i've never seen any around where I live... There are some common specimen of Ctenid here around, which I am keeping right now2 juveniles and have kept an adult male in the past.
I will have to wait for them to turn into adult to see if I have a female and male or 2 females or 2 males...

@spiders4life.

How did you notice that your female as ready to take the male?
I mean, how did you noticed it was already adult?

I donīt think thereīs any formula, for exactly when they are ready.
But the maximum size for this species, is approxemately 4cm body length for females. So i know this one defenanetely is mature. When the male has made a spermweb ill try to put him together with my 2. female, who are a bit smaller just to see what happens.

@spiders4life:

What is a spermweb like?
I've never seen such a behavior in any of the males i've had... or maybe is it that I have not noticed it?
Could you explain how hey act when they make a spermweb?

The mating took 45 minutes, so im actualy quite glad that i decided to go for the pictures ;)

@ toolrick.

The male makes his spermweb, to get his sperm transfered from his abdomen to his bulbs. the spermweb is basicly build like a hammock from the ground to the side of the tank, and the male climbes under it, and transferes his sperm to the webbing, from his epigastric furrow. After that he climbs over the net, and suck up the sperm into the bulbus.

This process is done in a coupple of hours, so you have to be lucky to witness the process. If you dont see the process it self, you can look for the rest of the torn hammock. Unfortunately I have no pictures of this species building a spermweb, and cant make a picture of the torn one my male just made, becauce I cleaned the males enclosure, while he was mating :wall:

@spiders4life:

As most of the males I've had have been WC, I will have to look out with the specimens I am rasing right now for those Spermweb.

@Everyone:

If someone might have a pictures showing what a sperm web look like, it would be great if to post a picture in this thread, obviously with spiders4life permision.
