i found these on a citrus tree i am not sure what they are
as i havent seen anything like it before they are about 3 inches
long and when you poke them or upset them they will protrude
two small antenna like tentacles kind of rubber like any guess

I know!!!

It's a Caterpie!! It will evolve into Metapod, and will then turn into a nice Butterfree!!

Sorry for the Pokémon thoughts ... I have no idea either ... :(

It almost looks like the caterpillar of the viceroy butterfly.

i am pretty sure most swallow tail butterflies (not sure what kind specifically) have those antena type things when they are caterpillars. this is just a guess though. but i think the monarch does as well.

my father actually found them on some sort of citrus tree
he told me that it was like a lemon but 10 times stronger
i think it came from south texas the tree. cheyenne

I am leaning towards a spinx moth caterpillar, I recollect seeing something really close to this in one of those online guides to moths of the midwest or something to that effect. If you have them and the tree you can pretty easily take cutting from the tree and put florest tubes on them or just bag off a section of the tree and allow them to feed then go to coccon ... then one magical day ;)
you can shoot another pic which may be more easily ID'ed .... from my Moth book!
hehe

It is definitely not a sphingiidae, I am still leaning toward the viceroy or a close relative of the viceroy.

Aren't those retractable "antenna" supposed to resemble a snake tongue or something like that?
