I just picked up this beautiful centipede (Black Headed Peruvian). However, the care for these guys are not readily available. I know they come from Peru but am unclear of any care details it may need. I want this guy to grow big and live long. Any help from anyone that may have one of these rare gems would be GREAT!! I hear coco fiber but how wet should it be? Temps? etc etc..

Thanks alot!!

I got a S.Hermosa a couple of month ago.Thay are a stocky easy to keep pede. I
keep my T room at 80 degrees and I keep them on a 60% coco soft and 40%
potting soil mix. With no additives like fertilizer.I also put a couple pieces cork
bark and a nice piece of gray slate in his container. The Hermosa likes to
burrow.So I don't see her much.My Hermosa is about 5".Hermosa are not a
big pede.Thay max out at about 6" or maybe a little more. But that would be
extremely large.I hope I helped and if you have any just post again.

Yea just hearing of someone else having this thing is rare lol. Thanks for the info also. I heard they get 8" and are very thick for a pede. Any clue on those details? Also, how wet do you keep the substrate?

Thanks

I keep the substrate moist. If you take a handfull of the substrate. You should
be able to compress it into a meatball. Then if yiu squeaze it it should crumble
apart. It should not be sticky. There been alot of recent imports.I the last few
month I seen almost 200 and largest was a little less than 6-1/2".Most are 3" to 4".
Thay might reach 7".But No way will thay reach 8".I got 6 others for some
friends and largerst was a little over 5-1/2"Now that Peru is open to export.
Thay have been coming in large nimbers. There was 200 that came into
florida.Theres another 20 importer probably bringing the some numbers
around the U.S.So theres alot more than you think in the U.S.There not as
rare as thay once was.If you have any more more questions just post again.

At the last show in South Carolina i saw at least 3 or 4 of these for sale. They are definitely a cool centipede, if i hadn't spent most of my spending money before stumbling upon them, i would've gotten one for sure! maybe next time {D

Just because there not as rare as thay use to be.That doesn't make them
any less of a pede. There still a great pede.

I keep some S. hermosa from Peru. This species is not very difficult to keep. Just use some moist- not weg substrate and keep them without too much disturbing.

Right now, one S. hermosa female is on eggs while another has nymphs right now...
