This is my "mystery Haplopelma"
Got it mislabelled as H. schmithi, which it obviously isn't. I'm thinking either H. minax or H. vonwirthi/ H. sp. vietnam.
If anyone would like to make an educated guess, feel free :D

I believe that's a Von Wirthi... this is the pair I sold to McCliff (that just dropped a sac)

does it act much like cobalt blue?(hiding in a hole all day...)

If they're too small (under 1"), I'd suggest avoiding them, because L. violaceopes slings tend to just die for absolutely no reason. I had two before, a few months ago; they were doing fine, eating very well, molted once or twice and then died, completely out of the blue. Most other people here on AB have had similar experiences with this species in general.

I'm just hoping the minax are more hardy. Oh and I'm still keeping them in small delicups lined with tissue paper due to their size, so I can't say anything about how reclusive they are. I would expect them to be as much a pet hole as H. lividum though. Once they molt they'll be rehoused. They have massive appetites

Allure in her original home when I got her:

After the big move on Sunday:

I'm not quite brave enough to open the lid to take the pics. Although I was told that she's calm for a Cobalt. :D As much as I love seeing her out, I'm wondering when she's going to remake her burrow. I wanted to just transplant the other one, but it got demolished.
Hope y'all enjoy my beauty.

Here is the way i keep 3 of my haplopelmas. The function very well. Eat well and have their typicall haplopelma attitude. The Smidti is gravid, but she was hiding unfortunately, she has a HUGE butt. They are all females.

Haplopelma hainanum, she has just been transferred, so she has not changed her home yet. But was in a simirlar setup before.

Just written to show that they are possible to keep a little different than normal setups for this species.

Hi Thomas,

Eat well and have their typicall haplopelma attitude. "typical Haplopelma attitude" - they are skittish and run away (in their burrow) when disturbed?

Cheers,
Martin

Well they spend most of their time IN the hide, and none of mine are skittish like that, they give readyly a threat pose when disturbed. They remodel their home to their own liking as you can see with my gravid Smidti and the minax also. Hainanum was transferred yesterday, so she has not come to that part yet. But she did remake her other enclosure.

IMO haplopelma terrariums should have lots os substrate so they can make tunnels like they do in the wild, keeping them like that reduces stress, making them breed more easily, reducing the incidence of eggsack-eating, etc. IMO you should reformulate their terrariums.
