Does anyone know if it is at all possible to hybridize these two together? I'll get some good pics up soon so I can do a proper species ID.... I think my buddy and I have the same kind, but who knows.

What is the point. D. variegatus are not common, why would you want to mix the genes?

Agreed. Don't you know? Pig & elephant DNA just don't splice.

I'm not sure if they would hybridize or not, but I doubt that you have any variegatus. Most, if not all, hobby 'variegatus' turn out to be diadema.

There really is no point unless you want to mess up the culture and confuse people of you stock gets distributed, heres a useful way to determine which species it is.

Yeah I do agree last time I was told I had D. variegatus it turned out to D. diadema. The only reason is because I have a lonely female and I'm pairing it up with a buddy's male. I also wouldn't sell them as one specie or the other, but yes people who buy them would eventually get things confused. So I'll make sure they're properly identified before hand.
