International Arachnocontest #1 - Arachnocalendar 2004

Hey All,

We are proud to announce our first WORLDWIDE Arachnocontest. In other words Everyone is Eligible!!! We need to move on this quick since 2004 is just around the corner. There may be additions to the specifics of this contest, but we want to get some basic info and rules out to you all.


Basic Information:


Everyone is eligible. Doesn't matter where you're from. The prizes are not live and can be shipped anywhere WORLDWIDE.

There will be 13 winners. 12 standard and 1 Grand Prize Winner.

The Standard winners will get one of their pictures in the Calendar and get a Free Calendar to show off to all of their friends.

The Grand Prize winner will get their picture as the Centerfold of the Calendar and will get 5 Free Calendars and some other asst. Arachnopets goodies.

This will not be a home made Calendar but a professionally printed one on 11" x 17" 80 lb gloss paper with a 100 lb high gloss cover. The Calendar will also have staple binding (saddle stitch binding), not spiral binding, and will have holes for wall mounting.

Calendars will be sold to offset the costs of producing the calendar as well as to support the site. Price to be announced


The Rules:


5 Entries per Arachnopets member.

By entering you transfer all rights to your entries to Arachnopets.com. Credit will be given to the photographer if their picture is used in the Arachnocalendar or anywhere else on the site.

Pictures are to be mailed to Debby (mrsderanged@arachnopets.com). They are NOT to be posted in this thread. I will be placing the entries up here for viewing as well as putting copyright information on them. (Remember, credit will be given ;) )

Pictures should be taken at the absolute HIGHEST resolution possible on your camera. This is to insure that they are of the quality needed for the calendar. Unfortunately this also means that if your camera is less than 2 megapixels (this includes webcams) your pictures will be ineligible.

Pictures should be taken on as natural a background as possible. We don't want to see the enclosure that the subject is in, just the subject and maybe some substrate or cork bark.

Acceptable picture subjects are: Arachnids (Tarantulas, Scorpions, Solfugids, Amblypigids, etc) Myriopods (Millipedes, Centipedes) Insects (Roaches, Mantids).

Pictures will be judged by a panel of judges which, at thist time, will include Rick C. West. Other Judges will be announced.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY 5:00 P.M. EST ON NOVEMBER 12TH, 2003. NO EXCEPTIONS

Please note that we reserve the right to cancel this contest. In the event that the contest is cancelled all rights to entries revert to their original owners.

Some new information for/about the contest:


Please name the pictures according to what species they are.

Please put the name you want put in the picture watermark and your username in the entry email.

If you can, please send pictures in Tiff format as it is preferred. Jpg's are also acceptable.

If you are running into a problem with sending files due to their size, you may resize them to 640 x 480 for entry purposes. Please put the fact that you have larger sized originals in your possesion in the email.

We have a new judge added. In addition to Rick West from http://www.birdspiders.com we now have Manny Rubio from http://www.mannyrubio.com and author of Scorpions: A Complete Pet Owner's Manual.

Hey All,

Unfortunately we need to move up the deadline for entering pics. We need all entries to be received by Monday November 10th by 11:59 pm EST. I'm very sorry for any inconvenience, but I need time to resize and post them for the judges to view. If we continue to accept pics until the original date, there will not be enough time to put them up for viewing and judging in time to get them to the printers.

Hey Everyone,

First off we would like to thank all who entered. None of this would have been possible if it were not for you.

We would also like to give a special thanks to our judges (Rick West, Manny Rubio & Robert Gale Breene III); they had one heck of a tough task, with all of the great pictures that were entered. ;)

Another special thanks goes out to Ed Plada (MrFeexit) for coming up with the idea for the Arachnocalendar in the first place. :D

And last but most certainly NOT least, a VERY SPECIAL THANKS goes out to our very own Garth Hansen (Krucz36). For his tireless efforts in getting everything ready for printing. THANK YOU!!!

After a long and draining process, the conclusion was finally reached that 12 months (plus a centerfold) was just not enough to showcase all of the wonderful pictures that were entered. Because of this fact, we created the category of "Honorable Mention". Those who receive the honorable mention will have their picture as part of the cover collage.
