I was under the impression that 1st instar tarantulas lacked any hair. I got a magnifying glass and was looking at my 1st instar A. genics and noticed hairs. I thought that they didn't get any hair until their 2nd instar stage?

Acanthoscurria sternalis Stage 2 nymph - before this they were "eggs with legs"

It isn't very clear but they all have fine abdominal hair.

My G.rosea 1st instar slings have abdominal hairs and are just beginning to darken up and apear to be premolt. The urticating patch can be clearly defined from the longer hairs on their abdomens now as well.

Yup they do indeed have hair. It just takes looking real close to see it. Here are some chaco slings 1st instar that you can see it on.
