Not sure what happened to my original thread i posted last night...it is nowhere to be seen :(
anyway, i took a bunch of pictures while i fed my T's and the following pic of one of my A. huriana's turned out to be one of my better pictures and had to post it here. The first pic is ok, it shows off the purple on the abdomen i had never noticed before...is that normal or perhaps due to the flash?

I was telling Jason last night, the best way to inspect your spiders is to take a picture and inlarge it...LOL. You get great detail.
Cool pic!

thanks for the compliments everyone :) I was surprised it was that clear as I don't have a tripod and was pretty close-up picture...I don't have the steadiest hands usually.
I am using my gf's Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ3 with the macro lens...i think it's a 4 megapixel.

it's only molted once since it has been in my care and the previous pics I have are not the greatest. Have you checked the Avicularia species picture thread? There's a few pictures of this species in it as well...kind of long but the pictures are great and of ALL KINDS of Avics:)
Gesticulator, thanks for confirming my suspicions of the flash
Holley, you must be starving yours ;) I feed this one about once every week and a half...gets two crickets, the other one I got from you seems to be on the slower side and to be honest, i am kind of worried about it. After it molted it grew about the same amount as this one pictured but is a lil skinnier and won't eat nearly as much...MAYBE half what this one will. I kept thinking it was in premolt but it was much to soon for that to be. Hopefully it will be ok after the next molt and start eating like this one.

oh, then you just have a nice cam LOL. Mine are fed once a week on either a small cricket, or a lobster roach juvie. They are probably close to 1.75" or so, maybe a bit larger....
How bout yours? Some of mine are bigger eaters than others too, hopefully your other one is ok...

So that was Botar by 8's at the Tinley show? I was there and saw that versicolor. That guy was cool. I got my skeleton (E. murinis I believe) from him. I can't wait for more shows to come to the Chicago area! Much love for the avic's. I'm getting a versicolor as soon as I can.
Um we have the twice-monthly Streamwood ILL show....thats 24x more often than Tinley ;) Theraphosid Breeding project is Always there....
And on minatrix size, I have many and NONE are 4" legspan, even with Male Measurement Syndrome I couldnt call one that big ;)

Not that I can tell, but this is a young, growing specimen. I don't see red or orange setae anywhere on this specimen.
Is this in the original ""description"" (if that's what you want to call it!!) by Tesmoingt? Just curious. Whether a valid species, or a regional form, they really are gorgeous.
This spider was imported as a sling from Germany.
Talking about "colored setae" on Avicularia is sure to give one a headache! LOL
Interestingly, another specimen I have, from the same eggsac, is a little larger than this one and still has some redish setae on the abdomen and a little on leg IV... I'll work on taking some pics of that one as well.

Avicularia is my favorite arboreal type of T!!!! i just love there fuzzy looks!! :)
IM sending my mature male off too surena(another member on the boards) for a loan. and hopefully and eggsac will be produced!
She is only about 14 to 16 months old and is really healty. I would love to mate her as she has been so sweet. She got a new home over the weekend and loves her new digs. Since bringing her home last year she has had an empty toilet paper role hung by two sided tape as a home. She really has outgrown this setup so a larger cardboard roll is now in her new home (not in picture). Thanks for the comments.

They're not new to the hobby... but likely not a unique species (like quite a few Avicularia).
Probably a regional variant of the avicularia/metallica complex... but a REALLY gorgeous spider regardless!

Enjoy,

Can someone tell me if this Purpurea is in premolt? Looks very dark, black even without direct lighting and very clumbsy climbing anything! I suppose I'll know in a few days if it feeds or not however someone might be able to determine this through the picture.
Here's a quick pic I took after it pooped on me and jumped from my hand onto my bathroom counter, that's the first time it jumped on me, luckly the second time was in her enclosure. :)

Avicularia versicolor is my all time favorite, "if I could only have one avic".
The second pic is Avicularia aurantiaca, or yellow-banded pink toe.
Avicularia avicularia (freshly molted female)... outside last summer. This pic was taken shortly before she shot poo at the camera and started to leap from plant to plant in my garden. No more outdoor photo shoots for her! Second pic is her munching on a superworm. Fuzzyish pic but I like the kind of sidways threat posture shes flashing.

Looks more like an A. metallica, to me. Either that, or a hybrid of metallica and avicularia (which do occur in nature).
Just my two cents.

How much do purpurea's usually go for?
Slings anywhere from 50-70. Started I've only seen two people offer them and at 70-100. The person offering them at 70 also sold slings for 30. I assume he bred them.

I think it looks like it could in fact be a bicegoi or at least what I have seen of them? Looks like mine that I bought a few years back as a small sling. I don't think it looks anything like an aurantiaca like it was said to be in that thread but it could also be a huriana like you said? AVIC???? :wall: :wall: :wall:

Yes, T's regenerate/fix appendages quite well from molts. A twisted leg is an easy fix. Especially for a sling!

Avicularia sp. "amazonica" (poss. bicegoi) adult female, very stocky avic. This one has a body length of about 7cm:

Also this is possibly the "original" bicegoi, similar to this one in Rick West's site:

I bought her as a "pink-toed"-- imagine that!! I thought she might be huriana but it has been suggested that she is probably aurantiaca---Whatever!! She sure is purdy though!! All big and fuzzy. 6" now normal stance from front legs to rear. She grew just over half an inch from the last molt. Leg regeneration in progress as well. Enjoy!! I will post another pic from this thread as being the closest to her appearance I've ever seen. Oh and great pics to all of you avic lovers out there!!:worship:

Avicularia sp. 'biceurianasistiaca' :? ~3.5". It's actually much more brown toned than blue in 'normal' light.

This one has been a good lesson for me in photo IDing, I see four different pic's of other similar T's, and come to four different conclusions. Then it molts again and I can start all over...

There are 9 total containers (the white ones) most with about 20-25 slings inside.

and here is the sack after having most of the slings removed:

The species is Avicularia laeta by the way. I will be counting the slings when they molt to 2nd instar.
