And she went and made TWO bad eggsacs for me after mating...

>>2 bad eggsacs... .OUCH!!....Any reasons for the bad sacs that come to mind?..or just a case of bad sac luck?Just asking because I have 2 mature females waiting patiently for a male and it would be nice to produce some good sacs.Any input appreciated.

Tony
03-25-2005, 10:19 AM
No idea, they looked poorly constructed and were dried out very quickly...The male seemed kinda old, but was left in with the female..After a week or two he was found dead though I couldn't find any kinda of definitive proof of attack.
Thing is she made a sac a while ago unmated (sterile), that she did a fine job on. I believe it had 72 eggs in it? Have to dig up some pictures..

Any detailed info about this relatively new species to the hobby:

"San Domingo Giant"/Middle Ecuador" Pampohobeteus sp.?

I hear that in Europe it has been sold as "Middle Ecuador" Pampohobeteus sp. It was breed by well-known German breeder.

Info and pics would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi..

They are called Pamphobeteus spec. "goliath", (Ecuador, Santo Domingo)
I have never seen them beeing refered to as "Middle Ecuador"

As I understand there might have been 2 sacs from last year (one in august and one before that)

I have a pic from a german guy that found a T in colombia (i think, dont remember right now) that is suposed to be bigger than T. blondi.. And this P. sp. "goliath" will reach 11cm in body length (!!) :P
And the roumer says that its the same spider..

But you might refer to 2 diffrent species.. because i thin I saw a new Equador sp. in Hamm (11 March)

Anyways, I'm waiting for a mail with pics and info and shortly there after some slings :)

Hi,
Is she showing any of the blue sheen on the coxa/femura yet?? I think if I ever had a chance to keep any NW theraphosid, I think I'd be tempted to pick this species, I remember seeing a dried one (shame) over 8" in legspan and she was just stunning, has anyone confirmed the ID of true P.antinous yet? I remember there were like 3 or so species that may or may not have been the real thing, this was definately one of those, the one I figured will most likely be the real one. A mature male of this species is a sight to see :) I think Andy M. in the UK bred these not so long ago....

Steve

There's not a spec of blue on this spider. I always wondered why?, I remember having WC adults years ago, that had blue femurs.

After thumbing through this thread I see that Goterps has what looks like the same spider labeled as Pamphobeteus sp. "antinous". Thats prob how mine should be labeled as well. I wasn't aware that there were several spiders sold as antinous, but thats what this was sold to me as. Maybe somebody who knows more can shine some light on this.

Hi Tom,
I'd be fairly sure yours is the same as what you saw years ago, just too young to show the blue, besides it only really stands out in sunlight anyway ;)

Hopefully yours isn't a hybrid because of the naming mixup, I'd doubt it, I don't think many were bred and of those that were, the guys knew what they had.

I think pamphobeteus id my new favorite genus. They're all too pricey still though...

Here's a 1-3/4" Pamphobetus "platyomma/brazilian pink/whatever it is"

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x282/etown_rocks/Spiders/pamphobeteous/P_platyomma123107a_sm.jpg

Here's its big sister/brother (I dunno, it keeps shredding the exuvia)

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x282/etown_rocks/Spiders/pamphobeteous/pampho_flash.jpg

I've heard several different takes on the Pink/platyomma status so i don't know what to rightly call it. I just call it a Sexy Beast!

Very aggressive towards food.
Otherwise it's not too bad. Most of the time when I open the cage it just sits and waits for me to drop food in:)
I found it to be a bit more calmer since in molted last.

Beautiful P. antinous 6" female molted three days ago! She is a CB Euro import. Note the long, curly leg hairs on leg 4. The WC P. antinous collected in central-eastern Peru between 1996-1999 lacked those hairs. I've heard rumors that the SE Peru/Bolivian race has these long, curly hind leg hairs.
