Yeah, wild. He owns a landscaping company so they find all kinds of neat stuff.

He's keeping it, I just took a few pics.

He said he's going to try offering it fruit - I don't know much about their care so I couldn't offer him much advice other than to do his research.

Diseases:
The flying squirrel's body secretes an oil that totally repels any lice, fleas, mites, ticks, etc. There has never been a known case of rabies in flying squirrels.

Interesting.

My neighbor said it has fleas. So either the caresheet is wrong or my neighbor is wrong. I'll try to stop by tomorrow and see if I can confirm.

Squirrels are mammals. Mammals get fleas. Mammals get rabies.
It would be extremely rare for a squirrel of any kind to transmit Rabies since they most likely wouldn't survive their encounter with a rabid animal.
Have your friend contact a wildlife rehabber re: flea control. Most OTC flea preps will kill a squirrel. I'd be inclined to use a flea comb and handpick them off.
