Toad Swallowing Dirt?

My toad is kept in a ten gallon tank with a substrate of dirt from outside (the toad is also from outside so this isn't a problem.) when I give him his three mealworms every three days he often swallows chunks of dirt or dead grass. Today he appeared to be trying to spit the dirt he swallowed back up. (he succeded) Is he going to get an impaction? Should I feed him in a seperate container? What do I do if he IS impacted?

He'll be okay, feeding him in another container wouldn't be a bad idea at all, but they can ususaly swallow rocks and pass it with no problem. If it were a CBB animal i would be a little more careful, but toads eat substrate, and like you said they do a good job at getting it out of their mouths as well.

Toads and frogs can digest things you would not believe.

As long as it's just dirt and not rocks/gravels it should be able to pass it without problem. I would probably use crickets instead of mealworms though.
