This was posted in my local forum but nobody was able to ID it... they suspect that it could be some kind of huntsman, but I haven't seen any as hairy/colorful as this one... it's most probably arboreal, but the eyes arrangement doesn't look too new world?

Stunning and beautiful nevertheless!

That is a beautiful spider. Does the person know where the species originates?

Well, I'm afraid that the person just posted the pic, didn't tell much about the source of the picture either...

Looking at the eye arrangement, I would suspect it is some sort of jumping spider. They are very widespread and come in a huge array of colors.
I also think it might be fairly small in size (<1") and just a good photo.
Still very cool, it would be nice to find out what it is.

Looks like a beautiful spider but IMO to me it looks like it's been altered or even a fake, maybe.

Its definetly some kind of jumping spider probably from the family Salticidae.Good camara work!

True but all you can do is really have a guess at these things! My first impression was that the picture was altered cos most jumping spiders legs have shorter legs and its only the first pair that are long and thick!
All i know is the family Salticidae are suppose to have some stunning looking jumping spiders!

It's not a salticid. The middle two eyes would be much larger than the others. I have no idea what it is or whether it's faked, but I do know it's not a salticid :)

I think that it is a pretty doctored photo too. There are some seams that are showing. Looks like they took several characteristics from several spiders and put them together. Legs look like pipe cleaners. LOL!

Thanks Martin! So that's where the pic came from...

I used to keep lots of jumping spiders, so I knew it wasn't one of those... speaking of which, is there such a board here?

Why do so many immediately jump to the conclusion that is a fake or doctored picture? After that deal I went through a few months ago (A lot of you know what I am talking about) this is kind of a sore subject with me and kind of pisses me off. There are some pretty amazing creatures out there and my first thought when I saw the picture was wow, not that looks to cool to be real! Anyway sorry for the rant, I am not flaming anyone but just had to get that off my back. Peace, Greg

Lack of imagination or just plain cinicism would be my guess. It isn't just here either. Just about any forum or subject you have if there is a photo that looks good or strange there are always those who will leap to explain why they think it is fake. 99% of the time they end up looking like idiots. It's like the saying goes "truth is stranger than fiction" and that goes for photos too.

Wow that sure is a nice clown jumper... however I find it quite difficult to take pictures of these guys... especially on macro! They sure are relentless.

I'll see if I can get one of the most stunning local species and take some pics... it's bright red + bright blue with tints of gold! Wish me luck... (they are hard to come by, either WC or being sold...)

Also thank you all for the links. Thanks Greg for that page... actually there are plenty of Zenodorus around where I live, and they appear inside our house quite often. Very skittish and unpredictable psycho jumpers they are...

Occasionally there are some Holoplatus around. They are terrible fighters, but they seem to be very poisonous (at least to other spiecies of jumping spiders) and when it is consumed, the other party often dies within a day.
