I know I've got some fellow herpers here on AB. Allow me to introduce you to a very real bit of lore from my home state:

Every spring and fall in southern IL, The Shawnee National Forest temporarily closes a two mile stretch of LaRue Road 345, which flanks the LaRue Pine Hills. This is done to protect native species as they move from their summer swamp habitats in the wetlands to their winter hibernation habitats in the bluffs. To those that are familiar with this phenomenon, the road is simply known as "Snake Road."

If you're into reptiles and amphibians, this place should be on your bucket list. I'm planning a trip there this coming Spring. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of my own to share soon :)
