I have dealt with Todd Gearheart for several years now, which is in itself an indicator of the quality of service he provides. I would trust his service before that of anyone else with whom I've conducted business in the past in the arachnoculture arena (and most any other arena as well). His expertise is unquestionable, his conduct is completely professional, and his merchandise is always of the finest quality. As an arachnid dealer/breeder he is a true pioneer with many imitators but few equals.

I ordered 3 shiny grey E. African tunneling spiders and a male C. thorelli and they came by Airborn Express and were packaged very well. I had no problems with the health of the spiders and the condition was great, not shabby or skinny. I recommend Todd Gearheart to anybody who wants quality t's at a great price.

I just received an order from Todd Gearhart of beaucoup huntsman spiderlings, and two FREE P. viridans, and I must say I echo all these positive statements about Todd. Packing? Beyond reproach. Communication? Exquisite. Satisfaction?

I just completed a trade with Todd. My adult female B Smithi for his Chinese Black earth tiger Haplopelma. SP. As in all of my dealings with Todd over the years I was very pleased with the spider he sent me. She arrived in great shape and what a beauty she is. Reminds me of a H minax on steriods. Todd was the first on line dealer I delt with when I first got into the hobby' He was working at Glades Herp at the time. His knowledge of inverts is exceptional as is the service he provides. Todd has taught me a lot about keeping my animals healthy over the years and is always willing to offer advice. In my book he is top shelf

places, and I've got say that Todd Gearheart was the quickest at getting my order out. And when the
tarantulas arrived they looked excellent. I'll
definitely be buying more from him.

I recently did an online purchase from Todd and although the Post Office delayed my overnight shipment (no fault of Todd), the whole transaction was outstanding. There are so many fine dealers out there, it is really hard to decide where to buy, but I knew I would purchase from someone who sponsors this site so that narrowed it down to a select few and really from there it came down to who had exactly what I was looking for. I look forward to trying the other dealers in the future, but Todd Gearheart is definately on my list of potential future dealers.
I purchased: B. albopilosum (adult female), P. murinus (adult female), H. lividum (adult female), L. parahybana (sling) and he also sent two L. difficilis (slings) as freebies.
The prices were a little higher than some other places, but well worth it to get quality T's of the correct sex. The T's were all in extremely great shape and exactly the size described. The H. lividum got off to a shaky start due to the delay in shipping by the Post Office, but after warming her up, she pulled through and is doing great. I attribute her recovery to the excellent health she was in prior to shipping.
Todd communicated with me via email and answered all my emails in a timely manner and addressed all my questions and concerns.
Packaging was Top-Notch! Everything was not only packed to avoid injuries, but everything was also well labeled with not only what the animal was, but also labeled with condition such as "very aggressive," and "pre-molt." The one labeled "pre-molt" did in fact molt last night and is doing great (the P. murinus).
If you are looking for some new T's, check out Todd's website. Professional service and quality inverts! What more can I say?

I loaned a male Cyriopagopus schioedtei (Pet trade C. thorelli) to Todd, which successfully bred his female. Spiderlings were produced and Todd, true to his word, sent me half of the offspring produced. Todd paid for the shipping of the spiderlings, as is customary, next day arrival. All arrived well and were packed good. Each spiderling was individually "vialed", which is a small burden on the breeder. Vials don't grow on trees. Todd is a true professional hobbyist by all means, and I recommend him as a choice when a mature male is stricken upon you.
If in the future if I have a male tarantula, I will look to Todd for placement for a breeding strategy. He's the hobby "pitbull", but he's fair, honest, and I think he knows his s#!+.

Saw Todd at the Daytona Expo and as always, I got some great spiders at great prices. He had a large selection available and was extremely helpful and friendly. The next day, I noticed my versicolor sling had died and contacted Todd who in turn sent me a replacement "no questions asked" the very next day. The sling arrived in excellent condition and is doing great. I couldn't be more satisfied. I definately recommend Todd and I always check out his pricelist first when looking for new spiders.

I have made several wholesale purchases from Todd since May of 2003 and I've been very pleased with every aspect of doing business with Todd. Some of the highlights include:
- He knows his inventory and is aware of what he has in stock.
- His prices are fair.
- He is very knowledgable in the field of inverts.
- His turn-around time from order to shipping is very quick... even on large orders.
- He is easy to contact and will take the time to talk to you.
- Packing is professional.
Basically, from the time of order to the time the shipment is unpacked, I've been satisfied with Todd's operation and would recommend him to anyone.

I recently received a shipment of spiders from Todd Gearheart that included one of his powder blue Xenesthis spiders. The purchase total was several hundred dollars and well worth it. Todd made sure the weather was perfect for shipping, and his packing was top notch as usual. He called the day the spiders arrived to check on everything. Everything was correctly identified and sexed. I have been happy with the service and goods Todd Gearheart has been providing to me for years. I am very pleased with my tarantula purchase from Todd.
I purchased an A. bicoloratum, an A. avicularia, a C. cyaneopubescens, and a G. rosea, and I received an Aphonopelma borelli for free. (All spiderlings)
I had never ordered a tarantula online, so I didn’t know exactly what to expect. Todd made sure that the weather conditions in my area were appropriate for shipping, and he even chose the carrier that would best ensure that the tarantulas arrive safely. They were packaged very well in a styrofoam box with styrofoam peanuts around the vials, and the heat pack was still warm. They were all active when I unpacked them and were very healthy looking. They all appeared quite well fed. I have had them for almost 2 weeks now, and all spiderlings are eating and doing very well. The prices for the Green Bottle Blue and the bicoloratum were very competitive with other dealers. I got the avicularia and rosea on a special that Todd had posted, so they were priced well below other dealers. To sum it up, I would definitely buy from Todd again. I got a very good deal on some very beautiful and healthy tarantulas!

I purchased some great millipedes from Todd. He'll spend the time to make sure you understand exactly what you're getting. He educates you first, and then lets you tell him what you want. He has an excellent reputation for a reason, he wants to build a customer base for the entire hobby.
If you want to learn about the pros and cons of each species, this is the guy that can tell you how it is. He has a balance of reasonable prices, quality product, and outstanding service. You can tell this isn't his part time job or hobby...this guy is a professional. Highest recommendation.

I put up an ad a couple of weeks ago for a female T. blondi. Todd Gearheart emailed me and offered me a female at an excellent price. He said he would ship it that week, but it molted the day he was going to ship it. I admire that he held off the shipment, and the tarantula was definitely better off.
The result was a fresh, great looking T. blondi at my doorstep today. It came with a freebie A. borrelli and that was in great shape as well. Items were packed perfectly, shipped when he said they would be.

I'm a bit late in doing this review, but it does need to be done. This is the second time I have dealt with Todd, and I have to say that the service was very good. Due to some uncontrollable obstacles my order was postponed, but Todd did keep in touch the entire time, and I have full faith in him. The spiders were incredible when I recieved them, and he even threw in a bonus due to the fact that it did take a bit for the transaction to complete.
I am completely satisfied with my experience, and the next time he has something I've been looking for on his list, I will not hesitate to call.

I received my first order from Todd Gearheart today, and I am impressed. Professional from start to finish, despite a hurricane descending in Todd's vicinity. The three P. nigricolor I ordered were the result of Todd's breeding, and what spectacular spiderlings! Price was excellent, made even better with the quantitiy of three. They were well packed and reached me in Alaska via USPS Express Mail overnight. (Takes two days from most places.) My freebie was a G. aureostriata sling, and one more was added when Todd was unable to ship out on the day I had requested, for most understandable reasons. He called me to apologize and to reschedule shipping for the next day. I have nothing but praise for Todd Gearheart and this entire transaction. He gets my highest recommendations. I ordered a Sub-Adult female Theraphosa Blondi (About 6"). It arrived in great shape. The dates of its recent sheds were listed on the container and the spider inside was beautiful. Todd had to hold the spider for a few days to wait for it to shed (It was in very late pre-molt stage) which was the safe and prudent thing to do.
The order came with a free Grammostola Aureostriata, which also arrive in excellent condition!
Overall I am VERY pleased with Todd's service and I will definately order from him again. He will most likely be my main source for true spiders and other various invertebrates because of his awesome service and excellent spiders. He really knows what he is doing!

I've known Todd Gearheart since around 1998 and his days at Glades and have NEVER been let down by him. He's a real straight shooter as well as one of the modern day pioneers in the online Tarantula business. Todd's ALWAYS dealt with the most rare and highly sought after species available as well as their most up to date classifications.
His prices are more than fair and spot on with his descriptions!
When Todd ships you your order it's packed correctly as expected but equally as important you get the correct/exact Tarantula you paid for.

Unfortunately, I must rethink my earlier delight with Todd Gearhart. The FEMALE A. metalica I ordered from him, molted into a MALE about 6 months ago (around February 2005). I was heartbroken, and I did e-mail him - but got no response. Even though I see so many positive reviews on Todd, I was pretty disappointed that this happened. I don't know why he wouldn't respond ... but I won't do business with him anymore.

As many of my customers have known, I've had some issues with my emails the last four weeks due to switching over to a new computer, so I did not get this person's email stating a problem. I'd rather she tried calling me instead of the assumption that every email sent out "always" is received.
As for the A. metallica, arboreals are not as easy to sex as terrestrials. I'm human, and I guess a mistake was made. So, did this person exhaust their efforts in contacting me to let me make amends? No.
Amends will always be made if their is an error or problem, but I need to be contacting for that. Email is not always reliable. A follow-up phone call is the thing to do when an email of importance is not answered within a reasonable time frame.
Also, I'd glady take back the male A. metallica right now and offer Kathy something of double the value of what was paid for him. :)

I was looking for an affordable dealer online, and I actually stumbled on Todd's site. I enjoyed his links and information... then I saw that he had tarantulas for sale, and I couldn't resist! When my new 'friends' came in, they were healthy, freshly molted, and everything I was hoping for.
Good service, good livestock and a good person..... Great combo.
Four stars, and I'll 100% be doing more business with Todd.

I do not think people should be allowed to post junk without their name or an invoice/date/transaction record. Allowing it only encourages competitors to get their buddies to post junk and false transactions on the review boards to smear others.

I do not think people should be allowed to post junk without their name or an invoice/date/transaction record. Allowing it only encourages competitors to get their buddies to post junk and false transactions on the review boards to smear others. You're entitled to your opinion but we are not going to put Arachnoboards in the position of playing policeman to whether a dealer likes what gets posted here. No matter what rules we put in place, the unhappy dealer would find something to complain about. Even if there was a requirement for dates, etc., the claim would then be that dealers were getting their buddies to post positive reviews that weren't true.
We will take action on any clearly false reviews, but beyond that it is up to the reader to evaluate whether or not they find a report credible based upon the poster's history in the community.
I have deleted Arachnofaust's review/comment since it falls outside of the rules for a review post. However, if that board member wishes to repost it in the form of a proper review it will be allowed to stand. Any further comments in the vein of "an agenda" against you or any other dealer will be deleted as they have no place in the reviews forums.

Todd has assured me that he intends to send me a GUARENTEED female A. metalica as soon as he can get one for me. At this point, I am willing to assume he will make good on this promise - I will be SURE to post again when I do receive that spider, as I am the last person who really wants anyone to be unjustly smeared. Let's just hope this was a very unfortunate mistake, and all will be righted!

Concerning the above post by "Arachnofaust", note this person came out of thin air with only a history of three posts ever on this site, he gives no name, date reference, invoice #, email communication copy of anything for me to reference. IF he really existed, and IF there was a record of a transaction and email correspondence, I would have addressed the problem promptly and corrected it.
Anybody can see this for what it is. No other explanation is necessary.

I received my replacement female A. metalica yesterday, and she is lovely, plump and happy to be in a nice new home after her journey!
This whole scenario with Todd has been an unfortunate situation - I am very glad to say, that I have been impressed with his willingness to take action to replace my spider for me. I do rely on e-mail a LOT, and when he didn't respond to mine with my report of the "female" he sent earlier molting into a male, I dropped the ball and didn't try another means of contacting him. If I had, perhaps this good outcome would have happened WITHOUT a complaint on my part on the review forum . It has been a learned lesson - I won't rely strictly on e-mail in the future!!
And Todd - a very heartfelt thanks for your efforts. She is gorgeous, and I am delighted with her!

I just received a large, healthy & feisty P. Murinus female this afternoon, the order went smoothly, packing & shipping were flawless & the spider was larger then the promised 4 inches & totally beautiful.
More important than that was the advice I got from Todd during the transaction, although I do have experience with aggressive inverts, he made 100% sure I knew exactly what I was getting & was ready to deal with it, to me this shows he really cares about both his animals & his customers.
I only do business with people I trust & Todd is on my list, will buy again for certain! :worship:

I like how he pack each T with just the right amount of moistened paper towel... 1 of the slings decided to molt on the drive home from the airport cargo facility, and had enough space to complete the process.
He did a good job liasing with airlines, and all in all the transaction was smooth and professional. Would recommend to anyone!

Todd has great product, is extremely knowledgeable, and provides great service. I received Ts in wonderful shape exactly as advertised.
He cares about the hobby and it shows in his work. He'll spend the time to make sure you understand care requirements and I get the feeling he'd rather not make the sale if its not a good fit for the customer. Todd talked me out of buying something I really didn't understand about and wasn't prepared to deal with, and steered me to other species I'm extremely happy with. He could have made a bigger dollar sale, but went with customer satisfaction instead. This promotes people staying in the hobby, and promotes repeat customers. I'll buy from him again. He gets my highest recommendation.
I highly reccomend tarantulasspiders.com. Todd has healthy spiders, and good customer service. I placed an order a few weeks ago and was shipped out fast even though the hurricane went through his area two days before.

I had another great transaction with Todd. I highly recommend him for his competitive pricing, quality product, large selection, and customer service. He is THE person to contact for the pros and cons of keeping or breeding most any species of arthropod. He has my highest recommendation.
I love the spiders I just adopted from Todd. I got another Grammostola acteon and 3 little Chromatopelma cyanopubescens. He also included a jumping spider. My new slings are beautiful and appear to be very healthy.
I also want to say that I really like his send the box back idea. He offers a $10 credit for doing so and it can definitly be used many more times. I teach high school environmental science. The kids know I am expecting an order of spiders in the mail today. I'll have to take in the box and talk to them about this business that is responsible enough to want to reuse their packaging.

Todd agreed to trade a spider I owned valued at $650 for a $250 crested gecko and a $400 female B. smithi. He agreed to these amounts using my price for my Singapore Blue female and chose to value his B. smithi at what e-spiderworld's same sized female at $400. Todd shiped the smithi and the female gecko and smithi through the U.S. male second day. I warned him not to do that as my postal service is slow. Todd choe to ship that way anyway. The smithi was dead and smelling fowl. I shipped the smithi body back and Todd issued a credit memo in the amount of $400. This was done AFTER he had received his spider. Todd then asked what I would like to replace the smithi and I asked for the $400 in crested geckos.
Todd then sent me a single female crested gecko that would be valued at approx. $200 from several sites I had looked at. Todd then accused me of shipping a spider that might possibly be a male and too small. I informed him that I had purchased her from Jon and Joel at SouthernSpiderworks where they had sexed her as female from a moult. I also told him that bought the spider at $600 last year and 2 moults ago. She was 2 1/2" when I purchased her. I was asking only $50 more than what I paid. It was a price he agreed to up front. A price he agreed with when he issued the credit memo for $400. Todd then then sent me a single female crested gecko and did not even inform me until 10:30pm the night before it was to come. I was unaware there was even a package sent until te delivery man knocked on my door the next day.
Now Todd calls into question the dollar amount (agreed to at the beginning and only $50 more than my reputable breeders charged for the year before), the sex (determined by Jon and Joel at Southernspiderworks who I trust), and his own credit memo. Todd now refuses to fulfill his remaining $200 obligation and told me that the deal was "finished" leaving me short. Todd feels that since his smithi arrived DOA he now does not want to uphold his written agreement guaranteed to me. He has slandered me, called another breeders reputation and skills into question all to suit his own purpose and not completing the transation with is customer in good faith. Todd cannot exchange a smithi for a gecko ut must exchange $400 for $400. Todd needs to stop calling into question the documentation of other dealers/breeders on the point of sex and value and fulfill his good faith agreement with his customer.
I will NEVER deal with Todd again and would advise others to watch their backside so they get what was agreed to and not what Todd decided to change the terms to, to fit his own self-interest. He now has a female Singapore Blue female that is very hard to come by in the U.S. worth $650 and I have two geckos valued at $450. He does not do justice to our community that acts in good faith between all parties involved.
THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE YOU DO BUSINESS WITH HIM!!!

This was a bad trade all around. He overvalued and undersized what I wanted. Allen demanded a crazy replacment request. Agreed to one thing, changed his mind, changes the terms, didn't communicate it to me and had the nerve to say he got screwed. NOT!
1) He advertised a 4" spider. He sent me a 2.5" runt. He overvalued that spider to boot for $650. I would have valued it around $375-$450. Bottom line: He overpromised and underdelivered concerning the size of this spider.
2) I lost a beautiful, adult female B. smithi in the trade due to getting overheated in shipping. I made good on the replacement by offering him another smithi. He declined and insisted a crested geckos. I said he could have several unsexed babies or a couple of males or an adult female. He agreed to one adult female. I communicated that I had a nice
adult female. He accepted. He knew what it was and he knew the contents of the shipment.
3) He now has two beautiful, fire morph, adult female crested geckos in his possession. (Also, anybody knowing crested geckos knows that female cresteds are not easy to come by.) I have a 2.5" runt and possibly a male Cyriopagopus sp. I'm out of an adult female smithi and two shipping charges. Who got screwed here?
4) This guy has ran his mouth off saying terrible things about me. I've completed hundreds of trades with hobbyists over two decades now and my rep speaks for itself.
5) Beware of dealing with this guy. He overvalues, undersizes and changes trade agreements on the fly. He can not be satififed nor worked with in any logical, rational way. Good luck and beware. He is untrustworthy in my book and forever blacklisted to all that inquire about him through me.

My experience with Todd was extremely positive. I just received a myriad of semi trivial (to some) animals. No Ts, just other odds and ends that I find interesting. At the end of the day I think my measly order came to like $50.00 or something, yet he still sent me the freebie that I was not supposed to get with a small order like that. He communicated very well, and even shipped on a Thursday (Monday and Wednesday are his normal shipping days,) which I was very impressed with. The animals I got were spectacular, well fed, and lively. Personally I think Todd did an excellent job with my order, and I am more than happy. Thanks Todd!

This was the best packing job I've seen yet. I've seen good ones, but the extra shock-absorbancy of Todd's added insulation looked great for dampening bangs, bumps, or thumps. After about a month of delays due to bad weather on both ends and everywhere between, and Todd suffered some losses at his facility due to a brownout that included my original order. He called and said check out his pricelist and email him a list of a substitutions. I emailed him the subs and he responded and let me know what was still available.
AND when he completed my final order with a total value of $40 greater than my original order and didn't ask me for a cent more. So not only did I get an additional $40 worth of tarantulas but I received animals I wanted more than my original order.
The tarantulas were shipped Wed by USPS Express and arrived this morning at 10:10 AM and were signed by someone waiting. I was at work and didn't get to unpack them until around 5:15 PM.
I must commend Todd for his packing and his 25 plus years of experience in breeding, dealing, and shipping. I am now the new happy owner of a healthy, happy, lively BEAUTIFUL juvenile 3"-3.5" female P. cancerides, juvenile N. colloratovillosus, Poecilotheria striata s'ling, and the original arranged G. aureostriata s'ling freebie.

Todd, I've never seen this before. You are, "THE MAN!!!!" It was great doing business with you. And I love my new T, he's wonderful.
I'm keeping my eye out for you next new arrivals.

I've just received from Todd Gearheart a gorgeous young adult female
Brazilian Fire Red ( Lasiodora difficilis ) I'd sent him an email mentioning that I had a subadult male L. difficilis and I received a reply email
literally within minutes Talk about fast service :)
" I have what you want ", says Todd Gearheart. " I was the first to breed this species in the U.S., and here is a female from that first successful captive breeding in the U.S." She was expertly packaged and arrived in
less than 30 hours total transit time. I've been in the exotics trade a good long time...I have some definite views on service, communication, quality of product. For those of you who may be unsure just yet of who you can trust and where to take your business, I say without hesitation:

Although I've bought some snakes via the internet and mail before, I had never done an arachnid purchase. Todd's communication was great, the two cobalt blue females I bought were very carefully packed and Todd was very attentive to keeping me informed and getting feedback on the express shipment. A top job and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Todd or do business with him again. :)

I just finished a trade that took almost 8 months. I sent Todd a male L. dificilis last october and his trade spider didn't make it. He gave me credit and I had to wait to build a new house, and then wait for the weather to get better. (I live in Colorado at 9,000 ft ) He sent off 2! P.irmina to make good on the trade. Outstanding! But then again, all his reviews are outstanding.

This was my first dealing with Todd Gearheart, and it won't be the last. I purchased a total of 4 new tarantulas, 3 widows, and 1 red spiney spider. When the shipment arrived, the contents were exactly correct, and everything was neatley packaged. When I placed my initial order, I had to wait a couple of days for Todd to get my entire order together, (most of them were already in stock), but he was very honest about the delivery time frame, which I greatly appreciated. I know for a fact that Todd is a good dealer because I have purchased items from at least 12 or more vendors. 1/3 of them were flakey, but Todd hit the mark the first time.

Well I placed my order about 3-4 weeks ago and still am waiting on Todd to ship my MM subfusca. Granted it was ordered about a week or so before Christmas and I was leaving town for a week after that, so he couldn't ship but come on.
I feel that if your trying to run a professional business that 7 days should be plenty of time to ship even if you just got a HUGE chiliean import that you have to unpack... hire some help if it is that bad.
I would not be so upset if it was some slings or juv. or even a mature female but since it is a MM that is already on death row with my recently molted female getting ever closer to her next molt, that he should make it priority to get it out to me as fast as possible. We made a deal that he would get 5 slings on top of the $100 I paid for the spider:?
I sent him an email yesterday and no response? last time I deal with Todd, sry to sound mad but I am!

Danton,
Yes, Please post your name next time so everybody knows your name like you are trying to let everybody know mine.
>Well I placed my order about 3-4 weeks ago and still am waiting on Todd >to ship my MM subfusca. Granted it was ordered about a week or so >before Christmas and I was leaving town for a week after that, so he >couldn't ship but come on.
1) I had to wait for your schedule cited above.
2) I did not ship during the holidays just like most other dealers.
3) After Xmas, the nationwide weather was terrible and everybody knows that as we had 32F temps here in South FL.
4) I posted that I was on a two day vacation on my site (am I allowed a two day vacation a year?)
5) Like always, people rely too much on email. If somebody doesn't respond in 24-48 hours to an email, and it's really, really urgent, we still have phones, right. - CALL
6) After the last two weeks of Artic air blast, this week is great for shipping for most of the nation and your box will be going out (I'll contact you with the tracking #.)
7) Thank you for your overreaction.

We recently recieved a shipment from Todd. I have to say everything was well-packed, healthy and represented accurately. That is not the remarkable part, the circumstances that led to this order is the issue.
Early November we had the opportunity to purchase over $600 in store credit for half price to use at Todd Gearhart/Tarantulaspiders.com. I was surprised that it was still available at the time that I bought it thinking that who could pass up a deal like that? Well, now I know why.
Before purchasing the credit from the other person, we emailed Todd:
Hi Todd, I am considering purchasing $600 in store credit for your website from ********.
I wanted to confirm that he does, in fact have this credit, and if there
are any limitations for me to use it. I was told by ******** that in the
interest of keeping your paperwork simple, ******** would place my
order and you would ship direct to myself, zip code 90211. I appreciate
your time answering my questions.'
Todd wrote back:
Yes. This is a valid credit. His currently credit is $639.01 and I will honor this request.
I would make the invoice out to his name but put your name for the shipping address. For my accounting purposes, these would be "gift" shipment that he is authorizing to you.
It's a good deal. It's valid and you can use the credit of $600 towards deducting off your invoices to me. I'm sending ******** a copy of this email.
Todd
What Todd didn’t say was that store credit is only good for animals that are in his possession at that time. In fact, without exageration, at the time we were ordering, less than half of his listed stock was in his possession, and therefore we could not use our credit for it. He told me over the phone that he lists items for sale and “available” but only will acquire them after they are paid for. He had a good selection of pokies on his list and I emailed him about getting a couple, and this is what he wrote back:
Sorry, but the P. metallica can't be done with trade credit. I listed those last night, but didn't finish the listing in the new arrivals page saying that species along with others was for cash, no trades or trade credit. There is certain stock that I can access, but only via cash deposits.
In our frustration I emailed him:
I have been looking through your new arrivals, and I am not sure what is, and what is not, acceptable to use our credit on. Could you let me know what I can get with my credit?
Todd, to be fair, when I first considered buying ******** credit,
I asked you, "if there are any limitations for me to use it", to which you replied, "This is a valid credit. His currently credit is $639.01 and I will honor this request. It's a good deal. It's valid and you can use the credit of $600 towards deducting off your invoices to me."
I will abide by your rules, but I need to know what I can and cannot purchase with the credit. As of right now, please ship the following stock that I have previously reserved.
And he wrote back:
Sorry, it is a valid credit and my invoice that I sent you already is proof of that, but not for things that I have not put in my inventory yet. The recent announcement of the European and Aussie imports are not paid for yet. I can't do credit on things like that. Anything special like private collections that I broker out fall into that category too. Stuff that is in-stock and ready to ship next day, can be used with our credit.
He told me over the phone again, that he lists many things for sale that he does not have just to “gauge interest” in that item. And he uses the misleading statement that credit can be used “towards deducting off of invoices to me”, not telling you about the actual “in stock and ready to ship” clause.
Here is an example, check out the 20th spider down: http://www.tarantulaspiders.com/view/catalog?page=2 "Purple Huntsman", one of the hottest huntsman right now. His website says its rare, well, it's so rare that he told me that he never had any and had no plans on getting any. They are on his price list to "generate interest". Furthermore, without exaggeration, half of what is on his price list and says "in stock" are not actually in stock. He waits until someone requests something and then takes payment, and then he may get that animal, or not, in which case the lucky buyer ends up with store credit. And mind you, store credit does not apply to anything that he does not actually have in his possession at that time. We found this out the hard way trying to use our $639 credit.
We went back and forth many times trying to figure out what I could get, which turned out to be extremely limited because half of his entire price list is sold out, and of the other half, about 50% aren't actually in stock at that time, making use of my credit almost useless.
Here’s another example of something we were interested in: http://www.tarantulaspiders.com/product/holconia-immanis-giant-grey-huntsman It certainly wasn’t in stock on about 12/27/07, it’s not in stock right now, and he will more than likely not getting any in the near future. I pity the poor fool that pays for one, and when it does not make it into Todds stock, here you go…store credit.
Even after this extremely frustrating experience, he said he had another Chilean shipment coming in, including a certain species that I really wanted. He required a 50% cash deposit to reserve these which was not a problem, BUT I only wanted that particular species. Here is what I emailed:
I just wanted to confirm that if the unforeseen happens, such as a shortage in your shipment, or the shipment gets delayed over a month, that I will get a cash refund instead of credit. Please let me know soon, as I am planning on Paypaling the money to you on Wednesday.
Todd wrote back:
Sorry, I only do credits. No refunds. I will ask my shipper to confirm having a 50 lot collected on-hand in addition to to higher numbers that I may ask for. I will email you when I get his email confirmation of that.
So that means We send a cash deposit for something in particular, and there is a shortage in the shipment, which had previously happened, and he will only give back my cash deposit in store credit, which is good for about a third of his price list, if you're lucky. So, keep in mind, if you place an order and pay cash for it, and for any reason he can’t get that item, or you get tired of waiting for months, you get store credit only. And good luck using that.
Look at his business terms: http://www.tarantulaspiders.com/page/retail-business-terms-u-s-customers.
“Once your order is submitted via online ordering and/or email or phone call, and I have confirmed availiability and asked for payment and you have paid the full balance or made any amount of deposits, all sales are final. I have reserved the order for you and your are obligated to receive it. If for any reason, I can not ship you the order you paid for and no substitution can be made and/or a credit issued for the future, I will then issue a refund if you desire." It’s a lie, period.
Todd’s methods of doing business are unethical at best, and probably illegal in many states. I can honestly say that I have never experienced anything like this, especially with a nationally known dealer.

David Shur of Beverly Hills, CA:
1) My policy on credit was told you to you several times in private emails and phone calls. Basically in a nutshell: "VERY IMPORTANT: Customers with store credit can use their credit ONLY towards purchases from items on this list: www.tarantulaspiders.com/page/price-list-text-version"
2) You are a very confusing person to talk to. Simple concepts and statements you never understood. The same things I've told hundreds of hobbyists for years, you couldn't understand no matter what.
3) When I updated you about what you could use credit for, you refused to disclose that in your smear post on this page/site. You left that out. Ironic, huh?
4) You talked to a kid trying to use credit to get a venomous invertebrate and two dealers that by the competitive nature of things needed to smear me to make sure they get your business. Great references David.
5) If you didn't like out trade credit arrangments you should have bitched and asked for a refund - YOU DID NOT.
6) I got you nice, rare stock that I could sell 10 x over. You got what you wanted. You got nice Ts. You approved of the transaction by receiving them. You can't have it both ways. If you didn't like our business arrangements you should have asked for a refund and/or you should not have received the nice shipment.
7) It is very, very underhanded what you've done here with your post. You have portrayed me wrongly. I'm not in the business of making unhappy customers. If I was, like everybody knows, you don't last in business doing that. I DO NOT DO THAT AND I RESENT THE YOUR POST VERY MUCH FOR IMPLYING THAT I DO.
8) In revealing two dealers that have competitive reasons for doing what they do by badmouthing me, I can see how you got "edged" on. Ironic, the very things they told you, they do themselves.
9) I believe your "medical situation" this past week also explains how irrational your communications were. You were confusing. You could not understand basic concepts like :VERY IMPORTANT: Customers with store credit can use their credit ONLY towards purchases from items on this list: www.tarantulaspiders.com/page/price-list-text-version . You keep asking to use credit for things that I told you could not. I had to tell you over and over and you still didn't get it. Hundreds of my customers with credit through the years have gotten it and happy with the stock that I got them to where I have repeat business from them with multiple transactions. Hmmm....your the exception...wonder why????
10) You try to twist my terms of "“Once your order is submitted via online ordering and/or email or phone call, and I have confirmed availiability and asked for PAYMENT and you have paid the full balance or made any amount of deposits, all sales are final. I have reserved the order for you and your are obligated to receive it. If for any reason, I can not ship you the order you paid for and no substitution can be made and/or a credit issued for the future, I will then issue a refund if you desire." - David, notice that word, since you are a stickler for words, PAYMENT. That implies cash payment, not credit. Again, you are wanting something both ways.
11) I list items in my online store building species profiles to help educate and promote new species that I expect to get in the future. Sometimes I do this for certain suppliers to help them and me to judge demand for how many to acquire. For you to have a conversation with one of them, whom I'm helping promote their stock, and by them (for competitive reasons) to badmouth me in order to get you to buy them directly from them, this is unethical. I'm helping them and they wish to get your money directly. Of course they will tell you to buy from them. You can't see how that works??? No worries. I'll cut their supplier out and they can deal with you. Unethical and irrational both of you. A marriage made in heaven.
12) I think is very, very back-handed of you to post what you did. You left how some important facts. I hope you think on this edit your post on make sure it is known that you accepted our deal. You accepted the box. You got what you wanted. It's nice stock and nobody screwed you over in anyway, shape or form and I've been doing this too long, too successful with hundreds of hobbyists satisified for you to paint me out like you have.

I recieved an order from Todd today and everything looked great. The animals were packed well and I did not experience any sort of processing difficulties. While I certainly cannot comment on the above mentoned transaction I can say that I have known Todd since the early nineties. His knowledge and passion for the hobby have always been evident in every conversation that we have ever had. I jumped on a deal on some new imports of tarantulas from Todd. The spiders were packed very well for the weather and arrived in excellent condition. There was no hassle w/ payment. He showed good communication about setting up a shipping day around lower temps and answered my questions before I made a purchase. Now that things have slowed down for me a bit, I would finally like to leave my feed back for Todd. I ordered from Todd last fall. Todd is a very good communicator. He takes so much time with his purchasers. He was a reall easy-going guy. He asked me so many good questions that helped me choose whatever it was I was looking for. And he is very patient becuase I would get all excited about new T's and hit the paypal button before any clear decision was made. I think I did it 4 times. sorry Todd.
BUt here's the best thing. Todd was so generous. He donated egg sacs and gravid females to my rescue. I never expected such a thing. The temperature in my T room got messed with and I lost almost all of them. I told him about it and he was so nice about it. I might have been mad at someone if that happened.
He's not only a good dealer, he's a nice man too. But the quality is so great, I would probably buy from him even if he wasn't so good with people. lol
ANd BTW- an eggsac I thought was dead hatched just recently. So woohoo! Oh and one Giant African Centipede!

I have bought from Todd before and recently I made another order for a mm Sericopelma rubronitens. His detailed list of available Ts is someting to drool over. To me it's like visiting a complete Reptile Show. Getting back to my red rump, he was packaged superbly and was glad when I freed him from his cozy cocoon. He sprang into action and was surprisingly docile, considering he's a W/C. The transaction was hazzle free, and I believe that the warning stickers on the box is of a caring breeder. If you're in search for that special tarantula and Todd's got it, you can't go wrong with this gentleman. Todd is realiable, honest, and a caring man. He'll be there for you, and he'll answer all your inquiries within a reasonable time.

I've gotten a few Ts from Todd:
Acanthoscurria spp. "Bolivia", G. alticeps, C. cyaneopubescens, P. cam., a E. pulcherrimaklaasi, and an A. versicolor.
They were all super healthy, well fed, and the ones that were shipped were shipped promptly and packed neatly.
The A. versicolor I got from Todd at Repticon after sorting out a bunch of babies from his Chilean import for him. The versi hadn't molted yet, and ended up dying (I know that they are a fragile species as slings), but Todd offered to replace it with a molted and fed sling. :) He said to get back to him in a week after the rest of the sac had molted out, which I will do.
I've always enjoyed talking to Todd at the shows, and he's a good guy to deal with.

My son and I order 1 G. Aureostriata and 2 A. Versicolors from Todd in late May. We received the little fellows and we are very happy with them. The packing was first class and the fuzzy's are 1st class!
But I also need to apologize for overreacting while waiting for the shipment. I was due to have back surgery on 6-10 and needed to have them here before that, because I didn't know how long I would be down for. Todd, please except my apology and I will do it in person at the upcoming Orlando show.
Till then,
Rob

POSITIVE ONCE AGAIN
I just got some nice millipedes and slings from Todd. He spent over an hour with me helping me pick out the right new pets for my situation. I appreciated his expertise and his time. He has some very interesting stock that I had never seen before in the hobby. I always learn something new whenever I visit with him. A great guy that loves the hobby and cares about his customers. I have been dealing with Todd for years and have only had positive experiences. Highest recommendation.

Just finished unpacking a shipment of tarantulas I got from Todd. To say I was very happy would be a serious understatement. Not only did he include an extra one, but the advertised size of two inches was a little short--by as much as an inch and a half on several of them! That made the already low price even better. No doubt about it, another extremely satisfied customer.
Thanks Todd.
i just received 2 D. okefinokesis and 2 H. carolinesis
one of each were gratis, because Todd had foot surgery, with complications and could not get to the PO on time.
Over and above if you ask me, I 'll thank him at the FIRE show in Orlando

Well I took the plunge with Todd...let me first start by saying we never really liked each other....all because of a small beef we had some years ago.
Todd initiated the trade and even offered to ship first....We talked and I gotta tell you ALL...I generally like the guy now...my stupid pigheaded attitude was mostly to blame [I am a confrontational heavy handed person] and I am very happy we broke down the barrier.
Todd you are ok in my book and I am very happy with our trade...typing and talking are two different things....
A very generous freebie of a dolomedes was given
Again thanx Todd:D

I took advantage of a great deal on three Iridopelma hirsutum and they all arrived in great shape. The communication was fantastic and shipping was superb. Another flawless transaction... Looking foward to next time!

I just got a female G. actaeon from Todd, he is great to deal with. I'm sure
I will buy from this guy again.
Thanks for all your help Todd!!!

NEGATIVE.
On August 25th, 2007 I sent Todd this email in response to a shipment of orb weavers we had agreed upon for credit(credit memo 639):
Todd, Sorry that my information was not readable on the package. Here is the full information.
<personal information for memo>
Also, I would like to reserve 3 of the 6th-7th instar Latrodectus bishopi you have coming in. I would like 2 females and 1 male if possible.
Thanks, Kevin
The spiders I referenced were advertised here (http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=100569). Todd replied that he "wrote a note for that", at this point Todd was fully aware that I was only 16 and that my parents would sign the "Venomous Liability Form" via discussion in the IRC chatroom associated with the forum.
Then on September 18th, 2007 Todd contacted me about a lot of 12 A. argentata. I responded that I had been busy with school(was true) and then Todd offered to double the credit for the spiders, not being stupid, I went out and collected 12 A. argentata for Todd(spiders that had been sold before they had been collected) and shipped them out the 21st, and Todd recieved them the 22nd. I was then credited for the spiders($4 ea) and the shipping($19.50), this was credit memo 671, sent out on the 23rd.
I responded to the email with the memo attached with this:
Glad the spiders arrived safely. Any idea when you will have the L. bishopi 6th-7th instars?
Those are very cool! I wish I had the space to take some orb weavers. Hope all is well.<ref to photo of P. apacheanus attatched to email>
- Kevin
I got no response to that email and tried again to contact him on September 28th, 2007:
Just wondering when the 3 L. bishopi that I reserved from the 'special shipment' you were supposed to have at the end of August will be available.
I noticed that you have one 4th instar female for sale, but the price on that is more than I was going to pay for the 6th-7th instars I reserved.
I was really looking forward to these I hope you have them soon.
-Kevin
Todd replied that the shipment had come in mostly DOA, "The 6th+ instars came in DOA. I was only able to offer the 4th instar juvs at $25." He then said this:
I hope to get some more in the next few weeks. When you see the announcement on my site or via my email notification. I have lots of customer requests and "wish lists", but it's hard to look at them all in a timely manner, so when I make a new arrival announcement, remind me as soon as you see the listed.
I never recieved notification, or any contact from Todd. On October 26th, 2007 I sent Todd this email:
Todd, I am wondering what progress has been made since my last emails
with you. It has been over a month since our last contact and I would
really like to get the spiders soon...
- Kevin
Todd replied to this that the "shipment of a few CB juvs came in DOA" but that he had two hatchouts of new slings. Now, knowing my Latrodectus, growing these slings at a normal rate to a size where they could be sexed takes about 2.5-3 weeks. Knowing this I contacted Todd again on November 9th, 2007 to see how the slings were doing. This email was not answered.
I contacted Todd on November 11, 2007 with this email:
Todd,
I am sorry that our business transactions have gotten to this point but I would like for you to just paypal me the money you owe me in store credit. I am tired of waiting, tired of not being notified when there were problems with the stock that I have ordered, and mostly just tired of all the excuses. I passed up a better offer on the L. bishopi slings from UrbanJungles due to our pending transaction and I now regret that. I put faith that you would have the slings ready and that you really did just have a lot of bad luck with the shipping, I guess that faith was misplaced. I will post in the review threads documenting this drawn out transaction in one week, I hope you can make this right.
- Kevin Lentz
In response to this email I got this:
Kevin,
Your threatening me?!?
I knew you were young and this might contribute to your attitude. I did not have the right size and the right sex you requested. It is very difficult to obtain CB female L. bishopi. If it is so easy, please point me to who has the females for sale? My credit is good and you will get what you wanted, but it requires patience.
Threats do not make good for any kind of business.
Todd
My reply:
It was not a threat, just a statement. Truthfully I am fed up with how long I have been waiting. I was planning on posting in the thread when I finally had the spiders in hand, I have gotten to the point that I do not really even care if I get the spiders from you, your response within the week would have determined if the review was neutral or negative.
As for the spiders, UrbanJungles had/has 4-5th instar L. bishopi for sale on AB at $10 each, the ad is here: http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=108043 and after asking about the size he said: "They've molted at least 2 to 3 times. Some are almost .5 inch long. They feed on 1/8 in crickets." I know for a fact that <insert knowledgable forum member> has been able to reliably sex slings at 3-4th instar so at that size they are sexable. It is also worth noting that he does have gravid females for sale.
Todd, I have been very patient. I have waited since late September/early October for these. With the first shipment you never even notified me that they were DOA I had to send an email asking what happened with them(September 28) I then was not notified that your second shipment was also DOA until I emailed you(October 26). I will take that at face value but I find it odd that two shipments would both be DOA, but it does seem shady. In your response you mentioned trying to get females from other sources, have you even tried other sources?
I truly am sorry that it has come to this, but any other seller/dealer I have dealt with was prompt with telling me of any problems, this experience has not been pleasant at all, I just want this done with. If you are willing to paypal me my credit please let me know.
- Kevin Lentz
I got this gem as a response:
Kevin,
I have two bloodlines of 1st instars. I'm growing up a bunch to get females from. I was going to reserve you some AND if I could locate juvenile females from another source, I would do that also. If Dan has some, I deal with him and we have a good relationship and I'll get some from him for you - no problem. As for getting you adult females, that's not the deal. That is a much higher value.
So, you can be patient and I'll try to get you some juvenile females from Dan or another source (I didn't inquire with a few people last month and they said they could not guarantee females) or you can wait for females from my two bloodlines. I will honor our agreement, but you need to be patient. Anybody in the widow hobby knows CB female L. bishopi are not plentiful.
OR you can go down the low road and post crap, which I will defend aggressively and I'll make sure you never get any of my stock in the future and I'll let people know how difficult and demanding you are and put you on several black lists to ensure that.
Threatening me to paypal you was and is the wrong move. You will not get any paypal from me, but you will open a nice can of worms.
Be smart.
Be mature.
Be patient.
I will honor my agreement with you. It requires some understanding and patience on your behalf. Thank you.
P.S. If you need pics of my two bloodlines with a sticker on each cup saying your name and the number of females I owe you - I will do that for you.
Todd
Todd refused to cash out my credit, he insulted me, and implied that he would smear my name, my reputation, and ruin my future dealings in the hobby. In this thread Todd even claimed that he would have cashed out credit had he been asked.
Part of my reply to this, editing out the unimportant crud, was this:
I am not going to post crap, just what happened for people to interpret. I am interested in how you would defend this transaction though, all of my emails have been polite and have given you the benefit of the doubt, yours have been defensive and confrontational. I have not made any threats, I simply stated that my course of action involved a post in the review thread(I have been planning to post about this since the second 'DOA' shipment), yet now you have threatened me why is that?
I dont have a problem with not getting any of your stock, I simply wanted these spiders and I passed up some very good opportunities from other sellers because of this pending transaction. I regret that and I am disappointed about it, but oh well.
It seems that you will not make out my credit to cash/paypal so I am done with this. It looks like I am out ~$40 on shipping and my time spent collecting the orb weavers, I can deal with that. I am going to hold true to my original email and post to the review thread in a week. I dont want the spiders anymore, and I dont need any confirmation that you ever had a written list of what was owed to me.
"I will honor my agreement with you. It requires some understanding and
patience on your behalf. Thank you."
I have had a lot of patience with this single transaction, it has been over two months since the initial group of slings were supposed to be here! Seriously Todd, if I haven't been patient than what do you call that?
- Kevin Lentz
To this Todd responded with a bid to buy more time and more claims that if I posted a negative review I would "take the low road, you are out of the spiders, no paypal". I responded much the same as I had been.
Out of the blue, still on November 11th, 2007, Todd sent me an email asking about my birthday(something which he had full knowledge of previously) and we reafirmed that my parents would sign the "Venomous Liability Form" and talk to him.
Todd then called me on the phone number I provided for the credit memos. He made accusations that I was "planning to smear" him and such things, I explained my position of posting a review stating how I would be posting the information for the public to decifer. Todd then promised to double the number of L. bishopi I had reserved from the original shipment from 3 to 6 spiders and we went our separate ways.
On November 19th, 2007 Todd contacted me suggesting that I order something from his Chilean import with my credit. When I returned to internet access from a trip(Nov. 25th) I responded that other than the S. terrosus there was nothing of interest to me, just that I would continue waiting for the 6 L. bishopi he promised me. Todd responded on the 27th with a copy of his Liability form and did not reply as to what was availible in reference to the form.
I contacted Todd again on December 26th, 2007 as I finally was totally done with dealing with him. I was having some health issues(undiagnosed Celaic disease) and I was having trouble covering all the bases of my personal life, Todd gave me permission to sell my credit($115.50) to another party. I decided to back out of the deal as I was not comfortable giving the burden to another party.
This is the time period when DavidRS posted his review of Todd, unfortunately I was dragged into the matter. At this point my formal email records run out as Todd refused to make contact in emails while I refused to talk to him on the phone so as to have written records of the conversations.
Todd,
I will NOT discuss this matter over the phone. With all the insult slinging and threats being made(by both parties involved) I will not communicate in any form other than writing from here on out.
- Kevin<January 13th, 2008>
After many unanswered calls from both DavidRS and Todd, Todd left me a voicemail stating that he would not be sending me the spiders I ordered(at this point 4.5" P. cambridgei, $65, and African Black Trapdoor Spider, $25).
Finally after relenting and talking to Todd on the phone he agreed to ship out my package, I got notice January 16th, 2008 and it was to arrive the 17th, I was told Todd had "put some nice surprises in the box for you to enjoy." When I recieved the package the spiders were packed in a box with fiberglass insulation as wadding material, along with a photo of a L. bishopi presumably sent as a passive agressive addition.
The spiders were both in good condition, though the P. cambridgei was quite suspect. It was sold implied as female, "looks like a female, but I can't 1005% guarantee that right now". When it arrived at ~4.5" I easily ventrally sexed it as male after removing the paper toweling from its delicup, not to mention it had just molted December 12th, 2007(photo of top of deli that it came in avalable upon request). It molted again Febuary 25th, 2008 and was sexed as male, it hooked out June 18th/19th.
I will not be doing business with Todd in the future due to the lack of communication when the shipments came in "DOA", the accusations made, and the manner in which he conducted himself both in emails and on the phone.
*Some of you may be wondering why I did not post the review sooner, this was due to my being underage and my parents asking me not to. I have now cleared it with them, and being 18 now(as of September 4th), I am a truly separate entity from them. Thus I can post this review without fear of Todd ruining my family's reputation, just my own reputation as he promised/implied.
**Mods, I would like to apologize in advance for any crud this starts up, I am just posting what happened and trying to keep it as focused on the transaction between Todd and me as possible.
***Todd, I will not be answering any calls you make, nor will I respond to emails from you. This matter is closed from my side and I have posted my part. I hope that you do not attempt to smear me as you promised/implied you would.
****I am not "associated" with DavidRS, yes I am a member and moderator of SCABIES, but that has nothing to do with this incident. The statements Todd has made were already brought up in this post.

Kevin is associated with David Shur and Scabies (what a great association! AND it was well known that Kevin would be used as David's "proxy" after David was banned from AB. Kevin is making good on that now).
I was alerted in the spring of '08 that he would be doing this hatchet job. This kid was trying to pull the wool over me by lying about his age and trying to get around some restrictions on what he wanted to order. I didn't allow it. He didn't like that. He lied to me and said his parents would be ordering the L. bishopi and signing the necessary form. They never did. They never contacted me at all. So, Kevin got mad because he wanted something that his age doesn't qualify him for. That is industry standard practice in our hobby, but Kevin wanted to get around that any way that he could.
I shipped him to compensate him on a trade for things a under 18 kid could have, not what he wanted (L. bishopi) and I made sure that I took pics of the nice box that I sent to him and a few moles inside Scabies let me know what he was all about.
Also people like to do the cut and paste thing to make it appear that have an original quote. Nope! Kevin has done that little trick here in his attempt to smear me. He was caught in several chats egged on by the likes of David Shur in how and what he was going to do because he didn't get something that his age didn't qualify him for.
Too many positive reviews for too many years Kevin. Your hatchet job looks like it is.
P.S. My moles (your "friends" in Scabies) said you were planning this for my birthday. You screwed up. You missed it by one day. :)

Ok, couple things:
1. We are NOT your dogs. We do not come when you call. If you don't report the post, we might not see it. Get that through your heads, everyone ordering us to "clean up" this or that. Here's a suggestion: how about YOU report it, hmm?
2. some of you are really close to getting yourselves booted. If you can't make relevant, related posts about a TRANSACTION WITH TODD, then back away from the keyboard if you simply can't ressit the urge to post. The crap int he thread will be dealt with as WE see fit.
Take heed, I'm sort of done asking nicely about this crap.

Hello Todd,
I am leaving a neutral review on Todd business.
this is what happen.
He had some H troglodytes advertised for sale.
I emailed him about them and I ASKED HIM TO PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY WERE H TROGLODYTE.
I send payment via paypal to the wrong account and he emailed me back and gave me the same deal and the right paypal.
He also send me pics of the scorpions they told me that his helper made a mistake and that they were not H troglodyte (I knew this was going to happen, but I decided to ordered them anyways)
I emailed Todd a couple times and I got no answer so I open a paypal dispute, when Todd saw it he contacted me right away via phone and email.
He told me the reason why he did not responded to my email was because he had some email problems and did not see my emails.
He also told me that the paypal dispute was a little too extreme, but since I did not hear from him I thought he was ignoring me.
Well he offered to find me some troglodytes on his next import, and he said he was going to call me the next day, to see if he got any troglodytes.
Well he never called and I did get my $80 dollars refund from him.
I am posting this neutral because I am mad that someone with all the experience and knowledge and that many years in business, doesn't take the time to really check what he is selling.
It is his business not his helper's and if I am offering a certain specie I will make sure it is, so I won't look back when someone order it and It is not what it was advertised.
I did not get my H troglodyte, I did get my refund so a neutral review is what Todd gets from me.
Please make sure you guys ask and make sure you are going to get what it is advertised to avoid this kind of misunderstandings. Ask for actual pics before sending payment.

This is my response to Francisco's posting.
I don't mind this post. It's accurate, but I'd like to add a few details though. I had an email problem for about five days and that made Francisco think that I was ignoring him when in fact I was not. I was not able to retrieve emails that week. A mistake was made and I owned up to it with the promised refund. H. troglodytes was more common the last few years, but now H. paucidens is the common Hadogenes being imported. Due to my schedule that week, I didn't have time to verify the I.D. When it was, I promptly refunded Francisco's payment. I also called Francisco and took the time and effort to take pics and email them to him too.
I still think a paypal dispute was completed unnecessary though. A simple phone call could have cleared things up quickly.
I notice more and more people rely on emails too much. People are always having problems with their computers and email programs, and also people do not stay glued to their computers 24/7. We are human and we do have to travel and do other things. It's 2008, and everybody uses email, but we still have phones and a quick phone call can clear up things better. I highly encourage hobbyists in the trade to use the phone whenever an email is not answered within 48 hours and/or there is any urgent need to get an answer to something.
All-in-all, Francisco's post is accurate. I just wanted to add some details to explain things better. Francisco is on my priority list to contact when I do get in some H. troglodytes.

Positive!
Todd at Tarantulaspiders has quite a collection of true spiders, that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. I was extreemly happy with the selection available, and ended up spending twice what I was planing. The spiders, tarantulas and other "bugs" I ordered were very profesionally packed and look great!
Todd was also great about answering my many questions about the care of some of these critters. Excellent communication! I'm looking forward to purchasing more inverts from him in the future!
Once again I got some great spiders from Todd Gearheart. I have been dealing with Todd since 2002 and have never had any problems when dealing with him. He is very knowledgeable and just a great personality to work with. Keep up the great work Todd:clap: I will continue to do business with you well into the future:D

I wasn't going to post a review following "if you can't say anything good..." but I feel that I should.
I made a purchase for about 197.00 with Todd a month or so ago. From the very start, the deal was iffy at best. It was the Labor Day 50% off sale. I didn't get e-mailed this sale until 11:30 PM. The funds had to be Paypaled by 2:00 AM to get the 50% discount! I did the Paypal before 2:00 AM. I got an e-mail saying he received the funds. Then I had to mail a hard copy of the venomous liabillty form, which I did. I e-mailed several times to find out when he was going to ship-no reply. I think a week later he e-mailed me requesting my phone number. I sent it, although due to my crazy work schedule I told him I could rarely receive phone calls and it was best to communicate through e-mail. He didn't send any e-mails but did call and left two messages. When I returned his calls, I got voicemail. I e-mailed him again, I think more than once, and told him it was impossible to reach me on the phone and we should do e-mail. Still no reply. I finally was able to reach him by phone four weeks after I paypaled him the funds. He informed me that since I didn't e-mail him to check availability he didn't have quite a few of the items. Due to the time I received the sale and when I had to have the funds in to him (two and a half hours!) there was absolutely no way to e-mail him to check availability. Regardless, we worked things out somewhat. He was out of most of the higher priced items (including a Scolopendra subspinipes and Hysterocrates gigas). The male on a sold-as-a-pair-only Dolomedes had died but he said the female had an eggsack he would ship with it. A sidebar to this, she had no eggsack. He sent five hatchlings in a separate container. Then, a week after I received my order he was selling the Dolomedes s'lings for a dollar each! He still has the Hysterocrates on his current availability lists. Anyhow, he was out of approximately $75.00 worth so I made a substitution of a Pamphobeteus sp. He shipped and finally sent me an e-mail-the invoice for my order. He had sent the subspinipes he was out of, but charged me the full price instead of the 50% off that I originally ordered. Because of that he "cut me a break" on the price of the Pampho, but along with him shipping $190.00 instead of the 197.00 I Paypaled him and the 50% more on the subspinipes it really wasn't a break.
Upon receiving my order, which was very professionally packed, I discovered that he had sent two Heteropoda venatoria instead of the two different types of Malasian Huntsmen I ordered. When I questioned him on this later he said they were H. venatoria but they were definitely from Malasia. They certainly weren't the "Orange Fuzzy Malasian Huntsman" and the "Bronze Malasian Huntsman" I ordered, which were by the way a fairly high-priced item.
Those of you who have read my reviews know I never have placed a negative review. Over the past two decades I have placed orders with most of the larger dealers in the USA and several overseas. I have never had someone who insisted on communicating by phone instead of e-mail. I also have never had to do a venomous liability form, although that is understandable. It took one month to the day to get my order after I Paypaled him within his two and a half hour parameter. However, I did get it and it was well packed, hence the neutral/negative heading.
Todd, looking back over this thread I know you will probably have some nasty reply to all this. Like I said, I've never placed a negative review and wasn't going to place this one. I just felt I had to.

Peace.

"What the forum is not:
* This forum is not a place to get a dealer's attention. If you have a problem with an ongoing order, resolve it before posting."
Bob did NOT contact me to discuss this matter AND he still has on order with me ongoing. With that in mind, this post by Bob should be deleted and Bob should contact me to discuss our business FIRST.
Concerning the D. albineus babies. there was a hatch out and if anybody has ever had a Dolomedes hatch out they know how difficult to round up a 1,000 babies is, so I sent Bob some of the babies and he agreed to accept that. Concerning the H. gigas, the particular size (small) he wanted sold before he got his order in. The size now on my list is way bigger, a female and therefore totally different pricing. It's not the same sale that he refers to. All-in-all, this customer made things difficult due to the lack of communication in coordinating his requested order. I sent several emails and tried numerous times to call him. He didn't return emails and his phone # wasn't working properly.
Bob's lack of returning phone calls and emails made coordinating his order very difficult. Also, his order came after the posted deadline. The added items to fill out his order were outside of the sale posted. He knew that. Again, his lack of communication, made the order difficult to coordinate. I have not had this communication problem with anybody else.
I sent Bob these emails:
Aug. 25, '08:
"I've been emailing you for two weeks now and calling your phone # of (___)-___-____, (for privacy I'm not posting the actual phone #), but it is always busy and doesn't allow me to leave a message."
Sep. 18, '08:
"I'm trying to communicate with you about your order, but you phone # of (___)-___-____, is constantly busy this past week. Can you call me at (___)-___-____, or let me know what phone # and best time to call you is. Thank you."
Sep. 25, '08":
"Trying to talk to you about your order and shipping tomorrow. You phone # of (___)-___-____ is always busy. Please call me at (___)-___-____ tonight up till 12am or tomorrow 9am-11pm"

Just completed a transaction with Todd. Aside from the typical weather delays this time of year, everything went well. Todd called to update me of the situation and the package arrived a day earlier than expect!:D A+++++

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Packing was secure for the animals and insulated well enough to keep the frigid cold out. The critters were very healthy and alert, and much bigger than I expected! I will be doing business with again. Thanks Todd!

I just bought several items from Todd. He was very helpful, answered all the questions I thought he had time for, and shipped exactly as and when he said he would. Everything came in exactly as he described and a few things even better. I would absolutely buy from him again! All in all a very good experience with customer service, phone calls, emails, etc.

Ordered a Palystes sp. from Todd.
He included two freebies, one of which arrived doa, probably drowned in the sopping wet wad of towel.
Could have been packed better, they were in delicups with a wad of paper towel, nothing between the animals and the edge of the Deli.
However, the 2 animals that did survive appeared to be in good health.
I would consider doing business with him again.

I ordered 4 tailless whip scorpions from Todd for my high school biology class.
I received the shipment today. They arrived safe and sound. He did a nice job with the packaging. The entire transaction was perfect.
He promptly answered all my emails, and he was very helpful when I called him concerning a question I had. In addition, he is extremely knowledgeable about these animals. He is a supplier who I can trust.
I will be making another purchase from him in May.

Todd is a busy guy, but he keeps communication. I just bought a pair of Chilean North T's from him, and it was the right experience from the beginning. The T's were packed nicely, and arrived in great condition. They came out happy, and moved into their new homes with no problems.
Todd has also offered his assistance in my attempts at breeding them. You can get a sense that he genuinely cares about this hobby, and that is one of the most important things.
If I'm looking for anything else, I will be giving him a call.

I have a large group of Gecarcinus lateralis (moon crabs) that I bought from Todd a few months back, and all arrived in excellent shape and I haven't lost a single one.
I have also started buying centipedes from him, and have been able to ask him any number of questions about ones I didn't even buy from him and he has been generous with his time and information. Great guy to buy from.
He also emails back in full sentences!!! And addresses all parts of your email, not just one or two... SUCH a change of pace from a lot of other sellers. He is also very pleasant to speak with on the phone.
If you're debating between him and another seller, buy from him with confidence!!!

I probably owe a few reviews for Todd and every time we have dealt Todd has been a real professional. I appreciate the fact Todd communicates well, packs/ ships reliably, and you always know exactly what you are going to get. If he says it is wild caught, CB, 4inches, Female, etc...then there is no BS. I have had more then a few times, as I am sure we all have, where the T's have turned out to be mis sexed, sized, sometimes even a different specie. Todd demonstrates he truly cares for our hobby and that is what he is about and what you should expect when purchasing or trading for any T.
Thanks for the Beautiful Pampho and I look foward to other future transaciton

I just got in 4 new centipedes from Todd, and, through the months we worked on this, phone conversatinos were always nice, email was frequent and reliable, and he was exceptionally helpful and informative. This was my first time buying spiders in general. I ordered 2 juvenile P. regius Orange Morphs. Buying from Todd was a great experience! There were two delays to the original shipping date, but he called every time and explained the problem, and after the second time he added 2 extra P. regius to my order for the inconvenience. After that I didn't really mind the delay one bit :D
He answered every e-mail within the day or every few days, kept me updated and the packaging was awesome. The spiders themselves are so cute, they look well fed and they are incredibly feisty! The Orange Morphs are breathtaking and the males look so handsome.
I'll definitely be buying from him again in the future and totally recommend others to buy jumpers from him. Thanks a bunch Todd!
Now I'm gonna go stare at my four beautiful little babies.
another good transaction with Todd.
this time i have pre-ordered some import material,,,i would not have pre-ordered if i didnt trust him,,,he kept the communication open through email when the arrival of the import was delayed. When it was further delayed and I was getting frustrated he promptly called me and let me know how sometimes import process doesnt go always planned and told me about this one exporter from this particular country has been having logistic problems and personal issues which were messing with Todd's business.
basically when that happens, Todd loses his materials from the import process and his customers start assuming things about Todd,,,getting screwed from both sides LOL
but after the phone call I completely understood this situation we have corrected it accoridingly.
He even added 3 freebies (2 slings and 1 pedeling)
all in all the spiders came in healthy as always and i am very happy in the end.
thank you and will do business agian in the future im sure.

Is a marketing wizard in my Opinion. I knew that already, from his nearly 30 years of Importing and working w/ Reptiles......My former passion.
I did a partial Trade w/ Xenethis for a RARE Mature *pair* of Monocentropus
Lambertoni. They have mated within ten minutes of arrival, a credit to the excellently insulated shipping procedures
It is overdue, that I give praise to a true Pioneer, in the reptile, and now Arachnid Industries. I tip my cap :worship:
