I bought a tarantula from Petco. I went in to look around and they still had 6 of the B. smithi's from their special awhile back, although a bit larger, for 39.99. I looked through all six very carefully(to the great irritation of the petco clerk) and found one that looks female. Out of the six spiders four had very recognizable epiandrous fusillae and two were indeterminate to my best inspection efforts. I picked the one that I felt looked most feminine based on secondary traits. Here he/she is still in the kritter keeper they gave me. its about 3" - 3.5". I added a waterdish and will change up the enclosure to something more suitable later tonight so there is no need to tell me about the innappropriate substrate as it will be changed in a few hours to good old peat.

Good looking B. smithi! And that's a pretty decent price if you ask me...even if it does turn out to be a male :D

I picked up a 2.5" A. seemanni today at a local pet store for 12.99. I thought it was quite the deal for the cute little guy.

That is the normal price here but they are having an in-store sale for 39.99. They had the special a few months back when Petco bought a huge number of B. smithi/B. emilia slings and had them for that same "special" price back then at all their stores across the USA. My local petco originally started with 9 of these tarantulas. They have only been able to sell 3 of them at the time of the original special, oddly enough all three of those that sold were the B. emilia slings, but now they are stuck with 6(well 5 now) B. smithi tarantulas. There aren't many people in my area who are tarantula enthusiasts(besides myself I know none) so they are still pushing them for 39.99. This Petco's staff is highly afraid of the tarantulas with only one of their "specialists" who isn't an arachnophobe.

I went to this store one day to buy dog food and the manager and the entire staff were sitting outside the store and informed me that the store would be temporarily closed for their customers' safety until one of their associates showed up to re-capture a Pink-toed tarantula that had escaped while a customer was looking at it. LOL! I almost pee'd my pants when the manager told me that with a straight face.

I was just going to make a post about this. I just came back from a PetCo adventure and saw they had B. smithi for $99.99. My face went  :?
Still a newbie to the t world, and have no idea about prices, but the little guy/gal was still pretty small for $99 i thought. AH well.

{D Funny as hell. Did you offer a helping hand in return of a discount of your next purchase?
