Stridulating (plumose) bristles

While I was sexing the molt from one of my Cerato's, I decided to take a close look at the chelicerae and noticed that the plumose bristles were actually much more prominent in shape and color than I had ever realized. I even stroked the area with the tip of a toothpick and got the cast exivuim to hiss! Loudly even!
It almost sounded like running your finger down the teeth of a comb.


Anyhow, I took a couple pics cause....I guess I thought it was kinda cool.

Thats really interesting. I'd really like to get some molts under a powerfull microscope and take a look at those hairs.

Great pics there, in the past iv made moults hiss at kids which is not allways a good idea ;P
