Awesome spider, my Widows give me hours of viewing delight. I recently caught three L.hesperus adults that have a deep reddish brown tone to their abdomens. Probably one of the most exciting and curious arachnids in all of my collection.

Indeed they do rule... this is Stormcrow BTW, was forced to create another account as the cookies on my main account went haywire. Said I was logged in until I attempted to post, then it was logged out and I could not log back in. So couldn't wait and created one that paid homage to one of my favorite arachnids.
One of those reddish-brown L.hesperus just laid an eggsack, and already have two hatched eggsacs in a tall, large tupperware type container with ventilation holes punched in the lid with additional escape proof dry papertowels laid over the top and the lid snapped over that. 'Tis the season to be jolly for this scorpion and Widow keeper!

Ah ha...now you are an Arachnopeon again....he he he.
I think "mactans' is a much cooler name. I wish something would go wrong with my account so I could change my name to Bishopi. I was excited to actually get the username "Latrodectus" on the mytarantula forum.

LoL! Yeah, got kicked back down to Arachnopeon. Sheesh! My other account is still haywire, I log in and with every next performed function I am logged back out. In other words, I have perform like three log-ins just to perform a single function. Grrr!
Yesterday, I fed my widow. The cricket was much bigger than the spiders body, but she ate it all.

Black Widows are capable of capturing and subduing prey much larger than themselves. Much larger, including perhaps vertebrates, I once found a dry husk of an dead alligator lizard in a Widow web once. Don't know whether it was a victim of the Widow or a victim of age or otherwise. But it has been claimed such large vertebrates were discovered dead in Latrodectus lairs. That is still up to speculation, but the spider is capable of capturing or killing any invertebrate that suffers the misfortune to encounter it.
