Gorgyrella ssp. red trapdoor spider, and it's busy getting more irritated at me as the photo session progresses.

Indeed. They have more attitude than just about anything I've ever seen. She was in that threat position for roughly twenty minutes before she decided that I had left her well enough alone.

Love your pics, especially the close up on the cephalothorax. Nasty lookin spider that lives up to it. I am going to make another invert haul two weeks from now and this is a serious consideration.

Thanks. :). I'm mostly into scorpions at the moment, though my interest in T's is slowly coming back (I picked up a Psalmopoeus irminia on my last invert binge), but this little Gorgyrella was only $12, so I figured I couldn't lose.

Where did you get her from?? I've been looking for them for quite some time, with no avail.

My apologies for my lateness in replying, I purchased her from Carolina Specialty Pets. He tends to always have some on stock from what I've seen, along with a couple of other trapdoor species.

Why are Trapdoor spiders not considered Tarantulas?
I heard they are the most advanced true spider, and the most primative tarantula, like, they're somewhere inbetween :?
