I brought my P murinus about 9 months ago, when i first brought her from a PET STORE!, she was in a right old state, as u can see in the pic (sorry about the blurr, i dident have digital cam at this time, had to use my web cam ;P), i tried feeding her but she never wanted to eat, then 2 days later she molted and she looked even thiner and her legs were curlin under, so 7 days later i threw crap loads of food in there, she was eating very well and 9/10 months down the line and a new camera and home she looks like this....
P.S did i mention pet stores miss treat there T's and also compare the abdomens, you can certialntly tell which pic is the healthy one and what one isent, shes due another molt soon
http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=31465 thats the link for my previous thread, i cleaned her house yesterday and put her in this kritter keaper, so i could clean her giant home

My wee baby. :D
This one is fuzzy, as I wanted to get a pic of her hanging out of the knot hole like she did while in this enclosure. (any touching of the house to take the lid off etc.. resulted in a swift and lengthy retreat) But you get the idea..

These next two is where she is now.. I wanted here to take to the little hollow bark I put in, and use it as the mouth of here burrow, as she did with in the previous enclosure, but she had different ideas..

They arrived with a bit of a mite problem  :(
The way they are eating it won't be long before they molt them off though (and Kev gets a leg back) :)
I am amazed how much the personalities of these two differ, Kev is secretive and a bit fiesty (he attacked my paintbrush when I was trying to nudge him into his new home ;P). Steve is a big webber and spends most of the time sitting proudly in the middle of his construction :) They are both greedy :)

I just rescued one from a pet store today..
she's only 2" now butafter 4 hours she already ate a cricket and is relaxed in her new digs..
poor thing barely budged when I "poured" her out of the deli container.
It's a good pet store with 'some' knowledgeable people but this T was not happy there..
wow that's Two T's in less than a week..

He molted a lil ways back...and apparently decided that his threat display and attack is best utilized from his back. Apparently he is now the T world's version of Hoyce Gracie. He didn't even go this far for the roach I fed him...must mean I'm special! Here's a pic of him after he was done being Jack Torrance. Heeeeeeere's Johnny!!!

I just got a P. Murinus as an early x-mas present yesterday! I'll post pics of this lil guy soon. Do they burrow or are the out and active alot? These things are mean too! I think they're more aggressive than my blondi, and lividum, but I never see my lividum so... it took down a full grown crick and its only about 2" leg span... phew...

All 3 of my P. murinus slings have molted within the last week. I've been trying and trying to get some good pictures of them, but they are impossible! They keep running back into their web burrows as soon as even begin to touch their enclosure!
However, tonight I was finally able to get a couple of decent shots. WOW! They grow so much with a molt! Two of mine went from about .5" to about 1" and one went from 1" to a little over 1.5"! It looks huge!

Nice ^_^. I think I may invest in a new digi-cam soon after the Christmas season is over... mine has great zoom capabilities but the resolution of the images, overall, leaves a lot to be desired.

If you are going to invest in a new digital camera of any type get the highest resolution you can afford. Another thing to look for is zoom capabilities. There are two types...digital and optical. Optical is with a lens (such as with an SLR with zoom lens. Digital zoom is done within the camera and you will loose some resolution. The picture may go out of focus if you crop it or blow it up.
I'm using a Canon Digital Rebel SLR with a 17-55 zoom lens.

Does anyone have close up pics of P.murinus in a defensive position? Preferably at ground level. I'd really like one. I'd take one myself but my cam took a poot on me the other day and my backup cam doesn't do close ups all that well. The reason I would like a picture like that is because my christmas present to myself is going to be a tattoo of P.murinus getting ready to say hi errrr I mean bite. That is how they say hi right. Well anyway just wondering.

This was the first molt I've ever had the chance to actually sit and watch from beginning to end. I've seen bits and peices before, but not this!
Of course, the entire time I was worried that something was going to go wrong. Everything went fine, though, and the new Kepler (at least for this month) looks great!

thanks, this one does not seem to be overly aggresive(YET) i have never gotten a threat pose or anything like and when it was time for the cage switch it just walked up the wall..stopped (thats when i clicked the pics)...then with a little nudge walked right down into the new cage. although i had my younger bro there with me just in case it tried anything fancy he would be ready with the lid. :D...yeah these T's are stunning in color.

You rehoused a ~3" spider a day after it molted?
shogun804
01-22-2005, 12:42 PM
You rehoused a ~3" spider a day after it molted?
yes i did...why do you have a problem with why i did it??? if so ill explain...ive been using this method for a while now i move all my T's into there new enclosure(if they need one) 24 hours or more after there molt....if you notice the time i posted the pics is what sometime after 11:00PM EST i think so the T molted around 9-10 AM the day before...thats more than 24 hours...and also it knocks out the whole feeding time and then they get used to there new tank and by the time they are ready to eat IME they are somewhat used to there new tank..so its like killing 2 birds with one stone.
yes i did...why do you have a problem with why i did it???
I generally will leave any given spider alone after a molt until they are eating again.

I think the concern lies in the vulnerability of the spider just after molting, since the skin is still soft and the spider's level of stress is quite high.
Does anyone know if touching a spider a day or so after a molt can have a negative effect? Can it harm the new exoskeleton in any way by a touch?
I know with one of my P. murinus, I offered it a cricket about 4 days after it molted (it was only a sling), and it ran from the cricket until I finally took the cricket out. It ate about a day or so later.
I know that the rule of thumb for feeding after a molt is about a week and/or when the fangs harden up. Is there a rule of thumb for transporting?
From what I've heard, this is a hardy species, so that may make a difference...

My slings are eating within a day or two, while it can take up to a month for larger spiders.

i am well aware of the hard and soft thing however i feed when the fangs turn dark dark red/black becasue its quite hard to tell the difference. i rehouse all my T's like i said 24 hours or more after there molt i have had no negative affects at all feeding and everything is quite normal and good behavior has never been an issue with any of them. i use a plastic chopstick to gracefully touch there back legs it never seems to bother them at all even after a molt i just moved my GBB also and it is fine already started to web everything up...the stress after a molt is overrated IMO the molt is over if you rehouse like what 1 hr after a molt then that could be a problem but IMO 24 hours or more is a good time frame to use i will use this method with all 28 of my T's so far and have had nothing go wrong and have rehoused about 15 or 16 of them...and if you are wondering how i check the fangs for feeding i get the T to climb up the wall a little bit then check them with a good flashlight..then i gently guide them back down to they ground if they are terrestrial and proceed to feed about 10 mins after i check.
EDIT>the other thing is that you do not rehouse your T's everytime they molt only when they outgrow there tank so all of my adult T's are already in the tank they will be in for the rest of there time. so moving them will not be an issue.

What? My little one (about 3cm in Body Length) build a huge web to the right side of her enclousure.
On the Pics above you can just see "stage 1".
now she covered about 1/3 of a 30x40x30cm enclousure, i call it "the castle"....
Maybe yours lacks of "opportunities" for webbing? I put a lot of wooden sticks into the container....
I`ll post some pics a.s.a.p. !
