I was thinking of getting this species of wolf spider since I've always been fascinated by wolfs and their huge eyes. Anyone have experience with them and captive care info?
Keeping large wolf spiders isn't much different from keeping medium to small tarantulas. I provide substrate, a small water bowl and a place to hide. The standard prey insects work fine. Although they can run pretty fast, wolf spiders are not good climbers and usually can't scale smoth surfaces. The lifespan is nowhere near as long as that of tarantulas, but pretty long compared with most spiders.
I raised some H. carolinensis from emergence to adulthood and they lived nearly 4 years total.
