Quite possibly the worst care I've ever seen. They don't seem to do ANY research into their T's. Every one they had was kept on the same bark-like substrate. No heat. No humidity. Didn't look like they had given any effort to clean the animal's keepers. It also looked like the sponges (?!?!) in their water dishes were starting to grow mold or bacteria. I explained to one of the clerks there that it was much more beneficial to use rocks in the water dish if anything.

Here's a list of the inverts they had:

"Asian Brown Bird Eater" (probable H. Minax)
B. smithi
G. rosea
P. fasciata
"Brazilian Red Rump White Knee" (probably Nhandu Chromatus)
"Rio Grande Gold" (Aphonopelma moderatum)
"Horned Baboon" (ceratogyrus sp.?)
"African Black Thick-Tailed Scorpion" (Parabuthus Transvaalicus?)
"Hissing Scorpion" (?)
"Egyptian Ghost Centipede" (Scolopendra sp.?)

What really bothered me was the poor little Black Scorpion. A gravid female, and they had no idea it was even pregnant.

Their prices seemed way over what these animals went for, and apparently it was Tarantula sale time since all tarantulas were half price.

I wound up leaving with the "Asian Brown Bird Eater", since I've wanted a Haplopelma for a while. She is a very pretty spider who's looking much better since I got her home and into a more natural environment. But I feel terrible justifying these guys and their disregard for these animals by giving them my money. I really wish I could have brought home that Black Scorpion, since I knew that the mother and her babies were much better off in my care than the owners, but they wanted $100 for her.

I do plan on stopping by from time to time, just to check in on their animals. They don't seem like horrible people, just misinformed. Maybe I can help them care for their critters a little better by sharing what I've learned about them. Anyone else in the NJ area who shares my love of these creatures should do the same.
