View Full Version : How much time do you generally spend on your Ts every day?

This is my first attempt at a poll... so if it doesn't work... well errm :o
Time spent would be considered your first checkup in the morning, any maintenance during the day, goodnight kisses and all the rest of the spectrum ;)
If you want to write a few words about what would be standard things please go ahead!
For me it's like that I do the T check first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to bed. Everywhere between things obviously vary a bit from day to day. But the morning and evening thing are basically instinct now. I don't even think about them anymore.

About 15-20 minutes a day is sufficient unless there are a lot of slings to tend or a medical problem.

I'd say about a good 20 minutes a day, considering feeding/cleaning and watching. Somtimes more and very rarely less.

It pretty much depends on the behavior of the OBT'S. If they're quiet, I usually spend only 30-45 min. with the T's. Then it's on to the Amphibs, and then the herps. However if the OBT's are acting up (making picket signs, planning escapes, etc...) it can add up. They're worse than any other/all the rest of the T's combined, including the H. Lividum. Sneeky LB's!!!!!

i only have one T at the moment so i spend less then 5 min a day, usually just to see how its doing and check if it needs anything (water or food). But i do watch it more then 10 minutes a day, just because its fascinating. I think i have spent more time maintaining my cricket carrier thing than I did my T today.

How you can answer to this if you dont "spend time" with them every day?
Average of week?

In that case I would say it sounds like less than 5 minutes. Alternatively you could start spening more time on your Ts so you can up your rating :D

I'd have to say that I spend between 10 and 20 minutes a day with my T's. Feeding up's the time a bit, but there are other days where everybody's fine, and I just go in and water everybody.
It takes me probably 1 to 1.5 hrs. to feed and water everything in this house. Which doesn't include me..that would include the cat, 6 herps (that doesn't include feeding all of the snakes..that takes quite a bit longer!) the roaches, the crickets, the T's. Nothing like scrubbing your hands about 6 times a night becuase you've got new animals in quarentine. ;P

I could easily spend 2 hours feeding and watering all my pets. I have Iguanas, T's, Scorps and a bunch of snakes. Between cutting up fresh greens everyday for the Iguanas and watering could take me 30 minutes.
I go down and usually come back up in 3 hours. I have a nice area set up. When you go in the room, it is set up like a jungle. You swear that you have just walked right into Costa Rica between the sounds, smell of plants, feel of humidity and mist, and temperature.
Most of the time is just observing all of them.

I spend more than 40 minutes on my T's. I love watching them.
I have also large number of other invertebrates, so I spend more than one and half hour on my animals.

I am in there many times throughout the day. Sometimes its for a 30 second once over and sometimes for cleaning or misting or what ever.

Sometimes I spend just a few minutes. Sometimes I just watch them for a long time. I wish I had enough time to just watch them. Mom and Dad let me move two chalcodes into the den because they have a desert theme. Now I get to watch them throughout the day.

So far today I think I spent 20 minutes alone just getting her outa the deli cup. She was trying so hard to make an escape. She just stuck the side of deli cup near the lide waiting for to open it again. I finally coaxed her a little bit to move and then I gave her a little shake then she relized that her home was now the kritter keeper. I also spent a about 10 minutes preparing the keeper. I expect to spend most of tomorrow setting up her permenant home in the 10 gallon terrarium. So that was my day today :?
I voted less than 5 mins, but other days they get lots of attention, I have so many herps, I set a side certain times of the day for some of them, others only get every other day, I have 18 snakes, 8 lizards, 2 dogs and a parakeet, besides my 7 Ts :D

I'm constantly checking in on my babies. But if I was to add up all the time in a day it would be around 45 minutes to one hour.

I'm at about 5 hours one day, 3 hours the next. On 5 hour days, I take care of the big spiders. 3 hours a day I take care of the slings. That encompasses the whole spectrum, feeding those who need it, changing out the water and washing the dish, cage maintenance, pulling any molts and sexing, etc. On 3 hour days, I do the slings. If we include the recordkeeping and species research, then I'd probably have to bump it to 8-10 hours a day.
I only have 14 T's and I spend maybe 30 minutes a day. I sometimes think I spend more time with the darn crickets then the T's! Going to change that this sping and get me a roach colony started. I hate crickets!

For all of mine, at least 2 hours a day. That is just for maintenance. But I change water dishes every day, clean up prey balls, etc. But I also have a ton of T's...20 of them being T. blondi.

between my now 17 ts, spend at least 10-15 min or so cleaning water dishes, adding water, getting prey items/cleaning poop, taking pictures if one of them decides to do something, feeding. but other days i have spent hours, preparing new homes for new ts, rehousing, expanding and drying coco fiber takes a bit of time as well.
none of that includes time spent picking ts for next order, and reading/learning/posting here.

some days I feed only my slings and some other the rest.

I would have to say at least 2 hours every other day cleaning and feeding. I check on all them every day, and that takes about 10 to 15 mins. I enjoy every minute of it.:)

I love to watch my two tarantulas... so most of my time spent (about an hour a day) is really just in observing them.
I grew up in the country... I can watch grass grow and be entertained by it.

LOL, me too. I USED to turn of lights and check the door locks last thing. NOW, I've got to check and make sure no one has laid a sac or molted before I can get any sleep! :o

I voted 1 hour or more, even though I don't have all that many.
I simply enjoy visiting with them first thing in the morning, watching/observing them throughout the day, whether they're doing absolutely nothing at all, or whether they're hunting down a food item.
Lately I even find myself tippy-toeing in here at night if I wake up to see what they're up to in the middle of the night. :D
Gotta love this hobby.

I generally spend roughly 2 hours a day doing something or other with the T's. Right now I have the cutest little B.smithy sling, s/he thinks its Godzilla{D so I spend alot of time just watching him probably spend more time with him that the rest right now. Between changing out water dishes, removing dead/mangled left over prey items, live crickets that have been in any of the cages more than 24hrs, removing old molts, checking the premolt Ts, feeding, misting ect. ect. and just visiting, ok maybe it's a bit more than 2 hours. I enjoy them they have a calming effect at the end of the day.

I generally spend less than 5 minutes a day... sometimes I don't even go down to "the room" for two or three days if they're all watered up, etc. It generally takes only 30 min or so to feed and water all inverts and reptiles, barring any deaths, major cleanup, or such.
What can I say... I'm a fighter, not a lover.

I have 10 T's ...different sizes and different needs, at different times...I feel that observation is the key to know what to do to keep the T happy even if it is just "hangin' out" . Maybe it just depends on how many you have and how much you care. I try to spend 1 hr. min. every day and I have a full time job too.
Probably about a half hour a day. And then there is the other time that I spend on this site reading about T's and also wondering if my T is happy.
Lori
feed the slings takes about 20 minutes, when I feed em all takes about an hour. I don't watch but take a peek at them periodically. Always at night when the lights are off and always in the morning. I need more t's. :(
It depends on what day of the week it is. I have 16 T's (well, now I have 16) and we feed the tiny slings every other day, we feed the 2 inch and up but still small crowd 2 to 3 times a week, and we feed the big ones once a week. Last night was a feed everyone night and with feeding, watering, and general T watching, it was about an hour.

About 20 minutes on the spiders themselves - about 30 minutes on online stores checking for new arrivals (or reconsidering T's they've had in for a while and haven't sold) and at least an hour on various tarantula boards :)

All my T's, Scorps and reptiles are in what used to be our living-room, so we are checking on them throughout the day. My wife doesn't call it the livingroom any more, she refers it to the showromm.

I currently have six Ts, with two more on the way. In a given week I spend maybe an average of ten minutes per day on my Ts, probably a little less. The majority of the days I don't do anything with them, on feeding days I spend more time. They aren't all on the same schedule for feeding, as that I have adults, juvies and slings, so my time gets somewhat spread out on them.
