Once again i am astonished at the lack of care of animals in pet stores. I was in regal reptiles on tuesday they had a bunch of t s and in one tank they had 3 live ones and a dead on in the same tank. unfortunately i am not able to tell what species it is. The dead on was riddled with tiny worms.. not maggots.. the tank was disgusting.i went there to see what they had. Now my son is not into the T s unless of course they are eating, and he felt bad also.
I was realluy disgusted with the whoile place. Are there not some government institution that inspects these places? It was really bad...has any one else been there?
I did notify a guy that worked there and he said "oh ok"...we stayed a while longer and went back to the tank and it was still there...I am willing to bet it is still there..by the way it is in Rhode island.

I am really surprised by this :? I have bought many t's from Regal and always liked being able to go and pick what I liked in person and always had good luck with the staff. The tarantula room was always very impressive to me also, not only because of the number of tarantulas but because of the cleanliness. I will say though that in the time I have been going there they have had a few different invertebrate guys so for some reason no one is ever there in that position for very long. They have had at least one new invert guy since the last time I was there so it is possible that the quality of care has gone down...hopefully not but from what you have said this is certainly the case. Hopefully they will see these posts and straighten out their act.

Regal Reptiles has been a joke since the first time I entered their facility. The reptiles are poorly cared for with numerous species being enclosed with animals from completely different locales. They had an iguana, 2 waterdragons, and several monitors sharing an enclosure that was roughly 8 feet long, 6 feet tall, by 4-5 feet deep. The iguanas in the enclosure were covered with mites (so likely the cage mates were as well).
They have an alligator tank that isn't of adequate size for a single alligator let alone the 15+ they have in there during their "shows".
On my first visit to their fascility I purchased a female Bearded Dragon that my wife wanted (was overpriced) and she looked fairly healthy and plump. Three days after she got home with us, she laid me 22 eggs. To understand how sad that situation actually is, she appeared healthy for an "average" size female. She did not appear gravid when purchased nor did the owner, Shawn, realize that she was!
This is going to sound pretty bad, but I would prefer to shop at Petco than I would at regal reptiles. I was THAT disappointed with their care and inadequate husbandry.

Just a as a follow up to the last post, Regal now has a vet that comes in once every other week. Unfortunately they are severely understaffed right now with only 4-5 full time employees working the during the week.

I purchased a snake from regal reptiles at the New York reptile expo two years ago. It was sold to me as a wild caught solomon island ground boa, that was definitely eating pinky mice. HA! It's actually a tree boa, and no matter what I tried, I couldnt feed it. I called them several times, being put on hold for quite a long time, just to get a guy to tell me that it was "definitely eating pinkies" and that I should try some techniques that I had already tried.
We finally (after 8 months!) discovered she likes tree frogs, and haven't been able to get her onto pinkies yet.
Since it was small, I thought it was just a baby. We had done lots of research about solomon island boas and really wanted a ground boa, that get nice and fat. But this one is obviously a tree lover that's skinny and pretends to be a vine. I feel cheated that they sold it to us under the wrong name. I've never been to their premises and don't plan on it.

I knew that place wasn't right. I went to the amphibian room and i actually feel bad for buying something there. All the horned frog deli cups had extremely soiled paper towels under them and the guy only changed it for me to buy it. Ugh, i feel really bad for the poor frogs:(
