I have always loved the click beetles and want to try to start a colony of them. I am located in Alberta, Canada and we have some small native ones but I was hoping to find out if there was a way to get some of the more exotic species or even just to know the care of them so if I chose the native ones I can keep them happy. there is little info. on the net so help would be appreciated.

P.s If they are better left wild I will still be happy to enjoy them in the summer months.

Hah... this is ecologicaly very wide group. Lavae of many species feed on different types of food. Some of them live in soil, where they can eat plants' roots, other eat small invertebrates, decomposing organic mater ect.

I've kept some european species. Most successfully Ampedus species. They live in rotten wood. I'll put their pics to "my" unusal insects thread :)

You should remember that click beetle larvae can develope for more than 2 years (I know that some of them need more than 7 years to become imago).

Ok. Pics are here:
