yep, introduced species, due to people moving bees around the world
hives can survive and produce honey with a small Varroa infestation, but the main problem from these mites is that they transfer bee viruses

i know that bees are being threatened, and the ecosystem will crumble without bees, but that mite is pretty cool.

too bad we can't somehow introduce tons of preditory mite eaters (I think lady bugs would be a good example of this, but wrong kind of food.) since I highly doubt a lady bug would mess with bees... ugh :? could we somehow keep bees in an area that just the bees can get too?
