found a strange spider.....

hey all i just now have found a small spider with a large red marking on the abdomen along with around 6 smaller green markings on the abdomen as well.
the body is black with very spindly black legs. does anyone know of a spider like this that is native to florida?
any info will help.

I'm not sure, but I thought male black widows were actually brown? I don't think they have green on them either, but I haven't seen one nor do I recall seeing any photos of one. From what I understand, they aren't very common.

I tried to do some searches on spiders native to Florida and this is the only one I've come across that has markings close to what you described. It might help if you told us whether the abdomen is more bulbous or elongated?

you probably see them more than you think... they just look very dis-similar from the classic adult female. most of the ones i've seen were all stripey orange/brown/white with a very mottled look to them... and they are ~1/2 - 1/10 the size of a mature female
