I got crickets and have them in a critter keeper in my breezeway. I went to put some apples in and there were a bunch of gnats flying around. Any suggestions on how not to have them?

Not exactly sure, but do you take the old food out, before it starts to rot or show signs of mold. I dont have to many crickets but i keep them in a tupperware bowl type thing....with small holes. So far i havent had any gnats or anything.

seriously, if you live in an area with gnats naturally occuring, and are keeping crickets in a grill-top cage, outside, it is going to be almost impossible to keep gnats away

if you moved to a container with much less access, and maybe put some cotton or paper towels in the vent holes to try to filter them out, and kept them inside, then maybe you stand a chance

but a cricket habitat is like heaven to a gnat, especially if there are dead crix in addition to the regular cricket food in there
