I just found this little guy yesterday and his colors intrigue me. I'd like to know what he is so I can properly take care of him. This will be my 2nd T. I have a female aphonopelma chalcodes, very docile. This new guy seems fairly aggressive. Anyway here are some pics. , sorry there not the best.

I don't think that's a tarantula.. It looks like a true spider to me.

I'm new at this bare with me please. I've never seen a baby t. so I wasn't sure. The pedipalps made me think it could be, and I don't like any old spider, only my t. so I don't normally check out spiders. Thanks.

How big is it? It looks like a jumping spider to me.

It's small, could probably fit on my thumb nail. I've never liked spiders, but a friend brought me my T so I'm learning. So I obviously don't look at any old spider b4 I squish it.

Looks a bit like a jumping spider, you might try searching the internet on

It's a jumper, possibly Phidippus johnsoni - males have a solid red abdomen and the overall coloration matches the, uh, blur you posted up there ;).
Look here and see if it matches: http://kaweahoaks.com/html/spi_phidippus_johnsoni.html

Looks like it has two v. large eyes front and center, which would indeed most likely put it together with jumping spiders. Keep it, feed it. If you give it the right stuff maybe it grows to 10in?! (Best is veal from the Chernobyl area I bet!) :D

I caught a spider probably identical to this one a few years ago, prolly still have pics somewhere...
yea, it's a jumping spider, there are are prolly 100s of variations of them haha.
if you want to keep it, it will prolly eat flys or just about anything smaller than itself.

It is a true spider not a tarantula. A type of jumping spider Phiddipus sp? possibly.

Maybe Phidippus whitmani... aka Red jumping spider? Then again... as I look at it... the carapace of yours is black... mine is red :-\
<I'm starting a thread about them right now :)>
