I like going to local nurseries and loading up on Peat moss, roughly 6-8 USD for three cubic feet of the stuff at Home Depot. I honestly havn't had a problem with parasites in Peat. Otherwise the Coconut fiber is good stuff; quite cheap, around 3 USD for enough to make roughly 16 Qts I think.
I love 100% Go to your local home depot and get the one suggested by the above poster. I use it dry, moist, for my superworms (they actually eat the peat), seems to work well so far. No need to buy anything really expensive when you have peat
I buy the bags of Potting Soil that I use at walmart for .96 cents per bag. They're big bags too.. each one fills up about 1/3 of a 10 gallon aquarium.
