It was delivered by the Mail Lady today,,,

I never really wanted to start with a Sling, but this little thing is so Cute,,( sorry, only word to describe it!) It's a miniature walking fuzz ball.... I held it for over 1/2 hour before I could bring myself to fix his/her container...

I took some pics., I'll load them to the Computer and post them after work.. ( tomorrow morning) ..

You know, A metallica man! regarded as the holy Grail of T's, a 250 dollar Sling. I think it's like the Indian Blue or something, but it's very pretty.

You're thinking of a Poecilotheria metallica. An A. metallica is a common tarantula, slings are fairly cheap, and the common name for the A. metallica is "Whitetoe."

Your thinking of Poecilotheria Metallica, Not Avicularia Metallica. The common name is Whitetoe. T staley: Common names suck though, several species have like five.

Edit: JINX!

Are you sure you are not referring to Poecilotheria metallica? Avicularia metallicas are a totally different spider, a New World arboreal, and are quite common in the pet trade. Here in the US, it's common to find ADULT specimens at reptile shows for $25.00; anyone who would sell an a. metallica SLING for $250.00 ought to be SHOT, along with anyone stupid enough to PAY that much for one! P. metallicas, on the other hand, are still quite rare in captive collections, and do command a high price, BUT...it is VERY important to know the difference, price notwithstanding, since Pokies have some fairly potent venom for a T, and most are not too reluctant to share it with you. I would use the analogy of someone getting a Copperhead, and thinking it was a Corn snake, in terms of handling. A Pokie won't likely kill you-I have never heard of any T that has killed humans-but a bite from one does not sound pleasant, either.

You paid $250 for an A. metallica?!? I hate to say it, buddy. But you got ripped. Unless you mean P. metallica, which the price is about right for.

Good grief - this is like playing the game "telephone." ;)

BGBYTOY never mentioned anything about P. metallica, only A. metallica. I'm assuming that he/she just got in Avicularia metallica, which I can see being described as "walking ball of fuzz."

that game is amazing AND is a great example of why second/third/fiftieth hand information isn't all that reliable.

It was A. metallica, not P. metallica! :D Doh! I think someone might have mentioned that before me...

Anyway... good luck with your A.metallica and let's hope it's an eater! Get it as small feeder insects as possible and pray for the best!

Actually, what it is is a good reason for why I ought to read the entire post and all responses before responding myself.

Yes as already stated, The common name is "Whitetoe"

I have him/her in a small tupperware container right now, I'll find something more suitable that it can be seen in and more comfortable in within the next couple of days..I'll make a trip to Michaels craft supply store to see what they have for a see through container...

He seems to be doing very well as of now,, As healthy as it looks, It has to be eating.. But I have read where they can do a roundabout and not eat....

Hope not though!!!

i'm glad it made it there with no problems Ron. The other contents of the box have babies small enough to feed to the sling. Not everyone has a local pet shop that carries pinheads, so I thought I would help you out.

YEah I know Cirith, it's just part of being a community, even an online one. I've been guilty of it on other boards many a time.

Haha, only this is all in text so it's not getting altered when it's passed along, it's just total lack of reading comprehension

Also congrats on the A metallica. That's probably the next one I'll be getting... I need more aboreals. I'm kind of scared of Avic slings though, since they seem to be able to die for no reason :( Is there a specific size where they're less prone to this? I have an A. avic but it was around 3" when I got it.
