Typical really, I was after a male as I bought a large juvenile female at the beginning of the year! :o Is it likely the moult would be too small to sex via that method?! I tried when its legspan was about 1.5" but couldn't see any evidence of the spider being a lass. :confused:

That's it moulted again (sooner than I expected) and this time I managed to get the moult out in time and have confirmed it as female. Oh well if I manage to get a male I should have two nice big females in a few years time.

I was wondering though, how do you pick up a tarantula like that without it biting you? or is it just a docile spider

I have a G aureostriata that I'm waiting to moult so I can sex it. From ventral views I'm hazarding a guess that it's female but I want to be sure. I'm wanting female though, so if I end up with a male maybe we can swap :D

I can pick most of mine up in this way, there isn't much chance of the spider biting as the fangs can't really come into contact with my skin unless it wriggles loads. This is a pretty docile little lady anyway but I've managed to pick all mine up for V sexing in this way (barring the really small ones) but then I only keep new worlds.
