I've been goin to the local pet store here in Hamilton, and for weeks and weeks I raised hell with them about the way they were keepin their T's, well i took in some care sheets for them a few weeks ago, various sp's and such, and much to my delight the people there were very perceptive to my ideas and immediatly upped the care on all thier T's.
Well that lasted about 2 weeks and they hired a new guy, when i entered the store, the clerks all greeted me as usual "Spiderman" ..lol .. my little boy will love that...anyway... i went back to the reptile and arachnid area and was totally shocked, EVERYTHING was all wrong and A MESS, I immediatly demanded to see the pet dept. manager, who promptly came to speak with me, when i started talkin about the improper care and the messy way the T's where being kept, he just shook his head and looked at the new guy, who then promptly stated, "Well the spiders creep me out so i dont touch them".

I just shook my head and walked away, told the manager i would not be back and i would be telling all of my tarantula keeping friends to avoid his store... welllllll on my way out the door he stopped me, asking me " Are you working " I said not right no" He goes wellll "Do you want the job you are not the first person to complain in that area"
Soooooooo I am now the proud keeper and educator At Big Al's Aquarium in Hamilton. I''ve upgraded the housing and the keep of all the T's in the store. I've also began takin in my own collection just as display,, for customer education and info, the store managers love my ideas and the compliments they have been recieving.
I know it sounds as if im tooting my own horn, but it just makes me proud to know im making a difference in our hobby, and that i am actually easing peoples minds ,educating, and soothing the fears of our 8 legged friends.

Our store is located at 140 Centenial Pkwy.N,.. across from Centre mall. It's called big Al's Aquarium and services.

At the moment we currently don't really have a whole lot, my order will go out tomorrow, on what i wanna get in, they've pretty much given me free rein to house , care, and order the T's for the store. Right now we have an A.Avic 2.5 inch spiderling
H.Lividum 3- 3.5 inch Juv
H.Maculata 1 inch sling
A.Juruenicola 1/2 inch sling
G.Rosea 3-3.5 inch juv

I also have Scorps as well for anyone interested in those.
P.Imperator x3 4-4.5 inch
P.Cavimanus
H.Longimanus

And also, i will be alternating my own collection inside the store, so if anyone would like to see what i got for a possible trade or swap or whatever let me know.
I work mainly evenings from 1-9 , I will be there for sure tonight and tomorrow, Just ask for the Spider guy and they'll send ya my way.

Congrats. I wish my pet store would let me handle the T's, I know they couldn't do it for the life of them.

Great!
The showing off your own private collection is a good idea.

Here (http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=53975&page=1&pp=15) is a thread where someone asks what to do because the Ts aren't selling very well at their pet store. Just in case.

That is friggin' awesome! I'm glad to see that that pet store took immediate steps to fix thier problem. It's nice to see a hobbiest now taking care of the tarantulas at a store instead of some random person off the streets. Especially if that person is creeped out by spiders. Good luck with your new job!

ok i placed my order for T's today woohooooo thier list is awesomeeeeee, my order should be in this thurs,,, so im hopin all goes good... here's what i ordered just for starters...

P.Murinus
A.Seemani (common i know but sells well in the store)
P.Cambridgi
A.Geniculata
S.Calceatum

I didnt wanna over do it right now cause thier limiting my space at the moment to see how well everything sells. If i can up the sells some maybe i can tlk em into dropping the mark up some.
So what im thinkin is,, if someone wants somthing particular, let me know, i'll special order it in, i get discount prices on everything, but spiders like that i can usually get at cost, so let me know.

you bastard you stole nmyjob! No not really but i see the same things at my pet store, sponge for water dish, gravel for substrate, and 50 crickets in the terrarium at one time. I told the manager, asked that he make some changes, even volunteered to do it myself (i did throw in a pitch for a job) but everything has gone unnoticed :( hell the other day i saw them about to see a 3' P. Murinus to a 12 year old...as his first T! Pet stores man....but hey go out there and make a difference!

Hey, that's exactly how my local petstore is. However, they only have common t's like A. Seemani and G. Rosea, and even then they don't seem happy. I'd volunteer, as I have before, but the owner is a baitch:(

Its people like you that most exotic pet stores need. Someone who will stand up and say something about the state of their invert sections. I'm glad they did the smart thing and hired you. Thats a great story :) and I wish it happened more often.

I'll be making a trip there one day to see the place. Big Al's are always a good store, and I didn't know they kept inverts :) I'm not a T person, (Mori pointed me here :P) but I'll be looking forward to seeing a good place to buy Scorps from.

*starts writing up a list for you to order*
