Just got this newest T book by AVS yesterday and unless it grows on you I'd have to give it about a low 5 of 10, the breeding section is worthless compared to all the info we have at our fingertips these days, and he opens this chapter w/ this statement"Let me make my position clear from the begining, I dont recomend that you try to breed your tarantula" That one realy got my goat, breeding your own T's is one of the coolest parts of the hobby IMO., its also a testimate to your abilities that you can keep these creatures comfortable enough to get them to reproduce in your care, plus its a gateway for some of the people W/ limited funds to trade groups of slings for a couple of the more expensive T's that they wouldnt have been able to aquire any other way.
There were alot of generalities and areas where alot of important or intresting facts were not discussed and alot of the outdated info i would have expected to find in a book written on tarantulas by Mr. rogers , I had been awaiting the release of this book for months and boy was I ever let down, I would feel much better recomending Vosjollies, Arachnomania as a "go to guide for beginers" than this uninformative and opinionated version of a 2006
introduction to the world of the mystical tarantula, even the pics were verry bland! if your like me and just have to have every book you can find on the subject then buy this book, if your looking for a quality volume about the finer particulars of the hobby and a bit of accurate and insightfull care info then you would do well to steer clear of the latest from AVS, just my opinion. This book was bad enough I seriously considered writing a book myself , just to try and stick up for what I think this hobby realy is about, "informative investigations to gain insight into better ways to care for, observe, display, clasify and interact with the order of arachnids known as TARANTULAS. PEACE B.
