I found this guy or what I believe to be a guy due to the pedipalps being they way they are.

I believe it is a Lycosidae sp. (Wolf Spider). I am in Connecticut, USA have seen some funnelwebs and other types of wolf spider but this is the first time I found one like this.

It was looking pretty thin so I brought it home to take some pics and get him to eat a cricket. Tomorrow I will be releasing him back at work with a full stomach to find a mate.

that sure is a wolfie, and you dont get funnelwebs in america so it would be a trapdoor sp you get round your place.

Cool pics, Chris. He'll sure appreciate the cricket. :)

...you dont get funnelwebs in america...
Spiders of the genus Agelenopsis (maybe some others from the family Agelenidae but I'm not familiar with them) are called funnelweb spiders around here. It's just a common name describing the type of web they build. But you're right that we don't get Atrax, Hadronyche, etc. here in America.

Chris -
You are the master, sir! Great shots (as usual!)
My lawn is FULL of wolf spiders this spring, they look a little different than your little grey ones. Well done!!

Pretty cool! It DOES look a little thin. Bet it made good use of that cricket. I got bit by a spider that looked very similar to that one here in Tx.

Just out of morbid curiosity; what was the bite like?
